AAM Monday: Project Life Week 35

It was one of those hot weeks. August and September hold on to summer with a vengeance around her. But he had a good week fishing in Alaska and I made sure to have a quite week without lots of 'get it done' projects to wear me out. It takes time to learn that. Writing this, I'm glad summer has left us though I know we'll get warmth in October. We always do.

AAM Monday: Project Life Week 32

Well the past couple of weeks have been a computer nightmare but I'm mostly back to a working level on my iMac. Sadly, this time a lot of the f-up was due to the genii at Apple not asking before doing something or telling me to do something that I knew I shouldn't do but listened.  Trusting my gut and my own experience is usually the best thing. I didn't listen.

In any case, I still have to get back on the line with someone at Apple Care to now resolve my backup issues. That's kind of scary because I had a prior experience of working with someone for two days trying to get the same kind of problem solved. I did manage to get most of what is being or not being backed up onto externals. That's a relief. It's always better to double or triple backup.

Travel With Them Tuesday: Off to Alaska

This is a trip that I did not go on but rather my dh took my granddaughter to Alaska. Getting to Alaska from the east coast of the US takes more to-ing and fro-ing than I'm up to.  This trip is best left to those who want to see Alaska and/or are interested in fishing for halibut. I've done the former and have no interest in the latter.

This was the 2nd trip my husband made with a grandchild. I'm not sure who enjoys it more! I was also testing out my ability to use a Lightroom Print Template. I finally got it but until I have both my digi supplies and my photos in the same catalog it doesn't save me much time.

I have a good bit to learn about using these templates.

Five on Friday: August 22, 2014

It's been a while since I did this one so you would think I have a lot of thoughts. Not quite since I've spent a lot of quiet time. Not thinking. Just being.

1. Is there a reason someone 'likes' a Pin on Pinterest but doesn't Pin it?  Is that supposed to make the original pinner happy or get a large score or what?

2. My dh and eldest grandaughter are coming home today from almost a week in Alaska fishing. I believe there is also fish coming back with them!

3. Tuesday was one of those 'heavy' days where the humidity and warm weather just seemed to hang. The kind of day that feels like it wants to rain. I was at my volunteer job and the teenage girls were acting up, no one was on time and everything seemed to be in confusion. I suspect the weather unsettled people and was to blame.

4. Smoked string cheese! I found it at Wegmans and oh I love it. I could eat the whole package I fear.

5. Today I had my first visit back at the chiropractor for a while. My neck was getting pretty stiff from both the strange angle it's at in the water aerobics with the flotation device as well as straining to see some things on the computer. You'd think it would balance out but it didn't.  Feels good now!

Happy April Fools' Day! While I've never eaten them, I understand the faux fish the French make for this day out of chocolate are fun. Well no faux fish here but how about this big one! My husband's son Mike with one heck of a salmon caught in Alaska. Flashing back to 2007.

Monday gets the Mamas and Papas singing Monday, Monday but what song is there for Tuesday? I don't want to take the time to do some serious googling today so I'll wait for someone to chime in with a Tuesday song.

Me? I am saying no to procrastination, and working my way through the photos from Alaska for an album. Because it wasn't my ...I'll die if I don't see Alaska!! ...trip, I can be a bit more ruthless in the cut. Fortunately only dh had a digital camera on that trip and while I'm culling the pictures, I still will have photo based layouts. I am almost a full week behind on Anna Aspnes class Album Magic. It HAS been helpful to me in seeing steps I haven't taken when thinking about an album. Here's one that didn't make it..me at Mendenhall Glacier looking as if I feared it was coming to get me.



DH likes centering...and he thinks the rule of thirds is one of my odd ideas. Oh well, he gets shots of me, tho not as many as when we were first married 8 years ago! Now I do have to remind him to snap me. It all comes out in the wash. Ok, back to sorting. Then once I have my iMac back I can get to work on the papers and templates.

On My Desk...August 5

Well this has been my desk for part of this week, down in the kitchen using the kitchen table. Unfortunately, I realized later that I had put the setting on close up, so there is an unfortunate unusual quality to the shot. (The only reason I am able to use the kitchen table is because dh is not home to be eating his 3 square a day here.)



I made good progress on some ATCs and feel I am getting a better handle on both creating them, and actually fabricating them. I really would like to take a class/be in a group making them. Ok, so this is putting that out there, so I'll wait and see what the universe comes up with.

I also heard from the fisherboys who reached their 100lb halibut limit for the day today and again called my son out in the desert lands. My dgs is getting an eyeball workout with all the scenery and the animal life...seeing whales frolicking up close and personal. I could tell from Dick's voice how much he is loving the company of a young 'un and the opportunity to share one of his loves...Alaska and fishing.

Good thing I have one empty freezer now!

Fisherboy checks in

I had a nice call from fisherboy up in Alaska. He and dgrandson are having a great time. I'm told that dgs's mouth tends to just hang open in awe as he sees the magnificent scenery of that state. They also got to call my ds who is halfway round the world, nearly 12 hrs away from Alaska. Technology...ya gotta love it.



Today the 'boys' went up to Mendenhall glacier which dh and I explored back in 2000. DH says it is receding at the rate of 300-500ft a year, and so they had to do a lot more walking to get to it. I'm soo glad dgs was able to make this trip and I can tell dh is enjoying the company. DGS was 6 when we got married and it's been so nice to have a grandfather to add to me as a grandmother.



Tomorrow they start their fishing - halibut and salmon - and I hope to hear that this 2007 photo has been duplicated.



And what did I do today??? Went to the Farmers' Market and got some upscale food pour moi..rosemary and hazelnut bread, seafood soup. a box of mixed mushrooms, and a berry tart. Betwixt and between working on a lot of ATC cards, I watched a dvd of MI-5 (I'm in the middle of season 3) and reorganized my studio so I can get some of the a/c on the tall work table. A good day all around for our family.

Tomorrow I clean and esp deal with all the semi-hidden areas where dear Sebastian has lost his cookies dinner. Oh yeah...I have to clean defrost one of the freezers in anticipation!
