My patient daughter in law took this photo of us on the T. Patient? because her husband, my son, will always try to give the middle finger to me, her, anyone. No, he isn't 14 but I have decided it comes from his father's genes not mine! even though his father would never do anything like this. 

I just shake my head and wonder....

A page from our years in Malawi shortly after leaving Iran. There were dangers in both countries bur basic health care was not a given in East Africa in the late 70s and early 80s. I doubt that it's a guarantee now but then again it's not a given for everyone in the US either. A sad commentary on our current lives.

Travel With Me Tuesday: Not Your Normal Southern Food

It's funny that when ever we get together down North Carolina way, we often end up having dinner at the same restaurant. Is it traditional Southern food? Not exactly especially as none of us were born in the South. So where do we eat? We call it The Indian Restaurant but in reality it is Pakistani, Indian with a lot of southern Indian also. I always say that the next time, I'll have a dosa because some do come without potatoes. I love dosas!

But after a frantic day, this was the meal that settled us all down.

Travel With Me Tuesday: Getting Ready for Boston

I always enjoy a winter, especially pre-Christmas, trip to Boston. Some think I'm crazy but I prefer cold to hot. Plus one of my sons and his wife now live in Boston so it would be my first visit to see them after their March marriage.  I'd looked forward to this for several month!

Travel With Me Tuesday; That Night in Harrogate

The first evening was a great evening with settling in and then going out to dinner with the woman who was my first neighbor back in 1968. It turned out that we had been in high school together even earlier in the US. Amazing. We each had different husbands than we had as neighbors but that made no difference. Some times, the years just don't matter.

Travel With Me Tuesday: My Beloved Valley Gardens

Back to my trip to England. Once up in Harrogate, our first morning was spent walking through the Valley Gardens and up into town. I had traveled this path so many times in the summer of 1968 with my firstborn. #2 son, though born in Harrogate, had his daily pram ride up the hill into Knaresborough. It's a good thing I did all the practice work for that hill with my Valley Gardens walks. I also now have arthritic knees which make the uphill walks a lot harder. Maybe age has something to do with it too. Ya think?

Travel With Me Tuesday: Via Project Life

I can't believe a week went by without another blog post. Where was I and what was I doing? Oh yes,  cleaning up the wreckage left after three bedrooms were moved about. He did all the hard work while I was gone but then I had the dusty mess left. Lots of books that "I" would have dusted first to clean and cull. In any case a lot is left but only in my studio. I have hope.

So you do get a batch of Project Life today just to show I did live recently and some of that time was in NC. That's travel!

Travel With Me Tuesday: Oh York, I Love You So

Our day started with a pickup by our driver and then later a switch to a shuttle bus to take us into York. We passed the train station and started to walk walk walk.

The River Ouse flowed quietly along the trees and endless green.

I have a strange look on my face but at least there's a photo of me with the Minster showing its towers . I love this view.

This entrance into the city of York is full of views that go back hundreds of years. The wall, the towers, the gate keepers home...all images that hint of the Norse city, the Roman city and on and on.

Dick and our guide look at building after building while the Minster waits for our arrival.

So many buildings that I have seen many times in years past but on this day we had no time. York is worthy of so  much more time.

I catch up with our guide who appears to check the sky. More rain or not. You never can tell in England.

One last glimpse of another place that we won't visit on this day and then we go to the Minster, the centerpiece of our day in York. The place I visited Saturday after Saturday when I took my boys shopping in the market. A Saturday routine over 40 years ago. On this day, just a taste of what was.

Travel With Me Tuesday: Sonora Texas 1966

Not a great photo but seemingly the only one that survived this day trip from San Angelo. When we had free time we wandered as far as we could go and get back the same day. The size of Texas was a revalation to us, used to the smaller East Coast states. Hoping to have a baby before we left Texas, we also knew that our days of total freedom were coming to an end. Did we actually go into the caverns? I suspect so but as we had both been to the ones in Luray VA, I can't be sure that we did.

I do remember that I looked at these covered wagons and doubted that I would have been the one to agree to Go West back in the pioneer days. But that is looking at these choices with 21st century eyes.

Travel With Me Tuesday: Looking Forward to This

This map, found and now sold by Paula Kesselring at The Lily Pad as part of the Life is An Adventure collaboration, is one that shows where we're going on an upcoming trip. Not a current map but the kind of map I love.

Interestingly enough, in doing genealogy, I came across a WWII postcard from a man to his former job in Washington DC. After going down many rabbit holes, I found that the writer had been stationed at Chipping Ongar. I could never find anything about that location and then low and behold, there it was on this map. (top right corner)  Serendipity!

Photos at MOMA which made me smile and were sent on to my Belgian friend. I hope she got a kick out of them also. The 2nd image is of mussel shells, all mussel shells! arranged on these shapes.

My late lunch at Eatly included steak tartare and gelato. Oh so good.

Spring came earlier to NYC than I expected. Blossoms everywhere.

I actually got out of bed twice to take these two nigh shots of the beautiful views of the misty sky.
