So much to see and nothing I HAD to do. A perfect vacation.

Five on Friday: April 16, 2016

I thought of some things that were unique to my recent trip to NYC. Boy, it was a good trip.

1. I had my first ever 'chocolate phosphate. Interesting, but I think I prefer a fruit puree to my club soda (or yoghurt for a lassi).

2. While I didn't walk the HighLine as I'd planned, I did see and walk along the Hudson River Greenway. Another time, I'll take it all the way down to the Staten Island Ferry.

3. I had no idea that it would really be spring in NYC. Wow! the flowers were everywhere.

4. My first sight of a movie filming. I saw Benedict Cumberbatch right around the corner - literally - from where I was staying.

5. omg the dessert I found! A gluten free chocolate fudge cake. So so good. I'm going to check and see if Whole Foods carries them.

I hope you have a great weekend and time outdoors. I have an on-line digital class this weekend but I'll be sure to get outside in the mornings to feel the spring air! See you Monday!

Travel With Me Tuesday New York New York pt2

Photos at MOMA which made me smile and were sent on to my Belgian friend. I hope she got a kick out of them also. The 2nd image is of mussel shells, all mussel shells! arranged on these shapes.

My late lunch at Eatly included steak tartare and gelato. Oh so good.

Spring came earlier to NYC than I expected. Blossoms everywhere.

I actually got out of bed twice to take these two nigh shots of the beautiful views of the misty sky.

It was just a couple of day in New York City but what a great time I had. No agenda, no real plans, just walking and saying yes to anything that struck my fancy. Here are some of the images.

Travel With Me Tuesday: Goodbye Big Apple

My last day in New York and I definitely accomplished two of the things that I had planned for this trip. In fact when discussing the trip with a few friends, one said that she would loan me her MOMA card to see the Matisse cut out work exhibit. I had hoped to have breakfast at Cafe Sbarsky also but as my hotel included breakfast, I decided I didn't need that extra meal. I also found that the bus going north from 53rd Street to 86th Street was a lovely ride but a slow one. 

Too late for brunch and too early for lunch, so a pastry and a melange filled the bill as I wrote postcards. Not my normal activity but I thought a few friends and children would enjoy getting a card. I had even bought stamps down in Chelsea the day before. Planning!

I made the big screen and also managed to get my phone out and snap the shot. That doesn't always happen. The image of Georgia O'Keefe in MOMA reminded me very much of the woman who told me about the bus to NY. It's all connected...energywise.

Travel With Me Tuesday: Another Bite of the Big Apple

After my day spent at Ground Zero, I was ready for more walking. One thing I have wanted to do since I heard about it was walk the High Line. There above the city, walking south along the Hudson River, it sounded wonderful. It was!

Brisk weather all day long, but not so cold that it hurt.  A proper cold day that allows you to walk without wondering if you could take a layer off. Of course you rarely can because that just means you have to carry another thing. These things have to be thought out carefully when you are not at home and have limited clothing options. All in all I've learned, less is more in packing.

As the big card says above, it was another day of 18,000+ steps. You'd think I'd lose 10 lbs, wouldn't you. I didn't. It may have been that scone...

Travel With Me Tuesday: Day 1 in New York City

This was pretty much fun to scrap, once I got started. Boy is it difficult some times to just Do it!

I'm ready to go back but not in the weather we're having. In any case, Boston is next on the agenda and I hope I don't have snow. More likely to have rain.

Boy those fries were good! and I even ate them for another day or two in the hotel room microwave. I definitely got my money's worth out of them and probably most of the calories too!

NYC Wrap Up

Wrapping up the NYC trip pages was kind of sad. I really really enjoyed this trip and doing the pages made me wish I was up there now.  We go a lot of places, but give me a big city most any time and I'm happiest.  London? any day. NYC? ditto ...well except when it's the middle of summer for either of those places or really most any place. It was pretty warm on this trip but mostly end of summer humid. Other than that, there is just so darn much to do and see and eat that I wished I was back. Another time... What's your favorite BIG city??

More layout from our NYC trip. We loved The Cloisters but it was a warm, muggy day with a good walk from the subway stop. It reminded us of walking out on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state. Every path was marked as 1.7 miles. DH swore that many were longer, and the return seemed even longer since  it was invariably uphill then.

But the walk to the Cloisters only had one uphill part and the reward was an airconditioned building with lots of fantastic art. Just the building would have been enough but with the oh so old pieces ...wow.

Not Quite Technique Tuesday

I've been doing lots of other things, and not being so good about blog posts. Mea culpa!

I definitely have been on a roll trying to finish up a lot of scrapping bits before yet another trip. The NYC shots are from back in September and I'm almost done with them now. I've enjoyed doing the pages and had I tried to do them earlier, I know I wouldn't have been ready. For the most part, I've been inspired by Anna Aspnes and am finally getting comfortable with more artsy pages.So there is some Technique Tuesday, but in examples not instructions.

I do like lots of journaling too so it's a balance between art and more traditional photo and journaling. I suspect I will find that middle ground in time or maybe I'll just flip from style to style. There Are NO RULES! Amen to that. So here's what's been going round with me and my computer...

Winding Up

Winding up a trip to the Big Apple which is always fun. This week, however, has been fairly hot and humid for September. That did impact us and our walking. But NY, I do love you.  The subways, the canyons, the parks, the stores, the food...oh the food. But most of all the people. I really believe a lot of that 'New Yawker' attitude shifted after 9/11. Or maybe it's just what I truly believe...You mostly get what you expect from people. I got good, over and over again, from almost everyone I spoke to. Ok, I speak to a lotta people. But that's been our experience.

When I get home, it will be scrap the trip time. Still, I have a day to add some more memories!

BooHoo...no on my desk today

Why oh why? because we have no internet connection at home. While this is just a pita to me, it is a bigger deal to dh who works at home, and email is the lifeline to $$s. So after an eye dr checkup, and getting my eyes back to their undilated state, we are coffe-chop connecting to the lifeline.

But I send you all a hello, and hope to check some desks later this week. However, good news is that I will be in NYC tomorrow - if I get myself on the 7:45am bus which is about an hour from my house. That means I get into my own car...early. Ugh. It's the price one pays for about 8hrs in the Big Apple, all for $35. Still not sure what I'm gonna do but just soak up that NYC vibe.
