Himself at Covent Garden

Goodbeye 2009, Hello London

Doing some catch up with a bit of erratic net connections. London has been chilly and rainy but then that made it feel 'right'. A trip to Covent Garden to see The Nutcracker and today a return visit to see The Tales of Beatrix Potter. Yes, we're a bit old for the latter but it was a nice afternoon treat.

Lots of walking as usual on this trip and tonight a walk along the Thames in Pimlico as we're in a flat nearby for a change. South Kensington is wonderful but this area is closer to our coach pickup Monday...that's for the 2nd half of our trip.It's very nice to have a whole flat ..kitchen etal and space enough not to get in each other's hair. Now we must see what's open and available tomorrow.

After really enjoying this for the time I did it, I think this will be the final one. Maybe again in 2011 or maybe I'll try out the 365 challenge. We'll see.

Call the Dr and see what the 5 messages that I found on our answering machine are all about. He said my test results were ok so why keep calling after he said Go ahead with the Boston trip?

Hope that dh can connect with someone to come look at the furnace. Glad our gas lines are still ok and that the gas fireplaces are keeping us toasty.

Continue the progress of getting our cars out and call the Mayor to ask if our street will ever be plowed?

But still....enjoy the white stuff which is pretty and pretty rare here.

Tests are Good

So all my blood work and gall bladder ultrasound say there is nothing wrong. Was it F.E.A.R - false evidence appearing real? Whatever, I am glad to have had a pain free night and clearance to go ahead with our plans.














It looks as if life has some sparkle again.

Dishing The Week 12-06-09

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW I can see the occasional flash of a cardinal. So pretty with the green bamboo and the white snow. Nature's Christmas palette.













I AM HEARING the airplanes fly overhead on their way to and from BWI. That means it's crisp and cold out.

I AM WEARING fleecy clothes. God bless the inventors of fleece!

I AM THINKING that it will be nice to see various extended family today and all together at one time!

I AM READING "Matchless: A Christmas Story" by Gregory Maguire. Excellent


I AM THANKFUL FOR a husband who is always willing to do what is needed.

I AM CREATING a simple meal today. Sometimes it's good to remember I don't have to do it all. That's what good purchased food is for.










I AM HOPING that the weather stays as it is so everyone can make it today. I'm also hoping I can find decent folding chairs at Target!

FROM THE KITCHEN there will be stuffed pork loins enough for a dozen today.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS is driving out in the snow as I did yesterday but only if it's for fun.













A FEW PLANS FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK- Mammogram Monday, then try to catch up with a couple more friends, then head off to Boston via Acela. What a treat!

Cyber Monday?

As much fun as it is to shop on line, at any hour, and in jammies or barefoot or...today is not Cyber Monday for me.

It's Color Your Hair Monday! I got up early and out to the post office to return my Netflix so I don't start jonesin' about the next Mad Men disc. After that swing round, a quick dash into RiteAid with two coupons and so for $4.44 my roots are gone. Yeah!

But shopping? I think there will only be this today. Free shipping too!

Dishing The Week 11-29-09

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW the pink light of dawn glows in the sky.

I AM HEARING the gurgle gurgle gurgle of Sebastian's tummy.

I AM WEARING my pajamas. Who would be dressed so early?

I AM THINKING that as nice as it is to go to friends for Thanksgiving, I surprised myself by missing leftovers.

I AM THANKFUL FOR the health and safety of all our children.

I AM CREATING file transfers between computers. Figuring out how to do it was the creative part - sort of. Right??

I AM GOING to start the actual pages of the Alaska Album today. Photos selected, digital selected, now to drop and decorate.

I AM READING a book about Wyoming at bedtime. The Meadow by James Galvin. Nice vignettes about the state, much lighter than Annie Proulx.

I AM HOPING that I can find another box or 2 to take to the Lutheran Mission this week. Then head to the books for clear out.

FROM THE KITCHEN I think it will be a pot roast today. Maybe shortbread too.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS is hot tea ready for me when I get up.

Flashback Friday

This is my father at The General Tire Company lot at 23rd & M Streets N.W. Washington DC. The back of the photo says 1963 and I will guess say it it autumn or spring by my father's shirt and the lack of leaves on the trees.

The strange thing is that my current husband also worked at 23rd and M while a co-op student in college tho not for this tire company. I always find it amazing that people who are have significance in our life have often intersected our life at other times. My current husband could easily have been across the street while I was on my occasion visit to my father's job while on my way to shopping in Georgetown. But it would take a first marriage for each of us and many many years down the road till our paths finally crossed with meaning.

Tuesday Tuesday

Monday gets the Mamas and Papas singing Monday, Monday but what song is there for Tuesday? I don't want to take the time to do some serious googling today so I'll wait for someone to chime in with a Tuesday song.

Me? I am saying no to procrastination, and working my way through the photos from Alaska for an album. Because it wasn't my ...I'll die if I don't see Alaska!! ...trip, I can be a bit more ruthless in the cut. Fortunately only dh had a digital camera on that trip and while I'm culling the pictures, I still will have photo based layouts. I am almost a full week behind on Anna Aspnes class Album Magic. It HAS been helpful to me in seeing steps I haven't taken when thinking about an album. Here's one that didn't make it..me at Mendenhall Glacier looking as if I feared it was coming to get me.



DH likes centering...and he thinks the rule of thirds is one of my odd ideas. Oh well, he gets shots of me, tho not as many as when we were first married 8 years ago! Now I do have to remind him to snap me. It all comes out in the wash. Ok, back to sorting. Then once I have my iMac back I can get to work on the papers and templates.

Dishing the Week November 22, 2009

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW the autumn light is flickering. It's a wonderful late fall day.

I AM HEARING the bubbling of the pork ribs as they simmer for Lithuanian Cabbage Soup.

I AM WEARING khakis and a Chico shirt. Maybe we'll go out today, maybe not.

I AM THINKING that I would like to find something else to do as a volunteer.

I AM THANKFUL FOR this new Macbook. It's just perfect for me.


I AM CREATING a very simple holiday season plan. No tree this year which will make Dick happy. (well just a tabletop tree…)

I AM GOING to start on the middle room this week. One or two big piles, and the tall cabinet may be able to go in there.

I AM READING very little right now. I feel pulled to do more and read less right now and I trust my gut.

I AM HOPING that my iMac comes back today or tomorrow. But if not, then I will catch up on the digital classes when I do get it.

FROM THE KITCHEN there is the scent of the soup, and later there will be meatballs roasting. We had stuffed pork chops last night so it's been a piggy kind of weekend.



ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS is the silence in the house and around the house. I always marvel at that as we are so close to a main street. Bless the muffling bamboo.

A FEW PLANS FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK send the T-day cards today, make the asparagus for our Thanksgiving with friends, and take my dear friend Judy to the physical therapist. Ok, clean out the car too! Try not to complain all week for really, what do I have to complain about in the big picture, or even the small one.

How Time Flies

Who knew I would miss my own anniversary again? Not my wedding one or any other significant one but my blog anniversary.

November 11 2007 Cooking My Life was born. What fun it's been. I recall wondering if I'd ever get to 100 posts, and I've passed 500 now. That says that I have posted 2/3 of the time, and I'm not counting posts on my other blog. I guess I'm wordy - enough.
