AAM Monday: Project Life Weeks 47 and 48

Not a lot to say here, but this was the week of his satellite launch. Some of that email is blocked so others' emails are not made public.

This is about all for the PL pages for 2016. December gets done in a different style, December Daily, Days of December, Document Your December...whatever you want to call the pages made this month. We'll see how that goes!

TBT: A Yorkshireman in 1972

Ok, not a man but a little boy born in Yorkshire. After 30 years, I finally got some of my older photo albums from former husband.  I wonder if he has any memories of his children from these times. The one of me and #2 son is on Thanksgiving 1972 and the one with his father is later that year.

Remember when we had to pay for film and then developing?  I rarely shot in b&w but did at this time. A shame because my dress was a fine orange wool!

I suspect this photo is one where Daddy is bouncing him and asking "Are you a happy boy?" No doubt, he was. Hopefully he is as happy today.

TBT: Thanksgiving 1962

This is a photo of my dh back 53 years ago. He was 23 then and apparently home from college in Detroit. I look at the room and it makes me think of the photos from my xh's home back in the 1950s. The styles were quite similar with the glass doors to a (screened?) porch, the doors covered in sheer curtains. The set of encyclopedias in the bookcase that came with them. African violets on the radiator cover? The Saturday Evening Post magazine on a table, and a soft drink in a bottle. A recliner chair for Dad and a lamp that shone light up and down. 

Interestingly, both families had dogs named Mitzi. I don't think Mitzi is a very common dog's name these days at all and I wonder why it was considered a good name for a dog then. Perhaps veterans from WWII started using this name and it stuck? But neither of my late fathers in law were in the military so...it's still a mystery.

In any case, 1962 as it was back then in Washington DC.

AAM: Project Life 13 Week 48

The end of November in these pages. That is a good feeling knowing that I did stick with it for the whole year so far. It's unlikely that there will be a reason to not finish. The majority of my pages are printed and ready to go into the album...one quiet afternoon before Christmas.

 

I tend to wonder if this is one of the last photographs I'll have where I am not the shortest one in the group. I am 5'7 and my grandchildren inherited my 6'4 father's tall genes. Right now I'm only taller than 11 year old Hannah!

Grateful Gobbling To All

Tired but Thankful

After a nearly three week trip in Europe, I have come home tired and hopefully getting over a respiratory infection. I've spent the days since landing back in the US sleeping, dozing, reading and sleeping. Doses of cough syrup have replaced food which is probably a very good thing considering how much we ate on our trip. I was grateful to have only gained 2+pounds in that time!

However we knew we'd be too tired to really do much for Thanksgiving, with an arrival  back in the US late Monday night. I had realized that there was no way to defrost a turkey in the two days so I bought a turkey before we left, cooked it and froze the mostly leftovers after having a October turkey dinner. It may take most of my energy today to go get it out of the freezer and make some other things to go with it but that's ok. Trust me, it won't be much else!

But today I truly am thankful...

I have a roof over my head, food to eat, people who love me, in fact all my needs are certainly met. I expect that in a few more days my health will be back to normal and that too is a real blessing.

I hope your day is filled with gratitude for what is ...and if includes a turkey dinner all the better!

Flashback Friday 10 11 26

What do you mean...you're still hungry!! I'm not washing one more dish today. Next meal is breakfast. Is that clear??? Out! Out!

While this is not my photo, it reminds me a lot of my Nana and that post Thanksgiving look in the 50s. The kitchen is finally clean again, and someone wants to eat ..more? This kitchen is a lot larger than the one I grew up in but the metal cabinets look familiar and were white til my mother painted them green! Happy Black Friday. I'm gonna watch a movie...In My Own House. You would be wise to do the same.

Dishing The Week 11-29-09

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW the pink light of dawn glows in the sky.

I AM HEARING the gurgle gurgle gurgle of Sebastian's tummy.

I AM WEARING my pajamas. Who would be dressed so early?

I AM THINKING that as nice as it is to go to friends for Thanksgiving, I surprised myself by missing leftovers.

I AM THANKFUL FOR the health and safety of all our children.

I AM CREATING file transfers between computers. Figuring out how to do it was the creative part - sort of. Right??

I AM GOING to start the actual pages of the Alaska Album today. Photos selected, digital selected, now to drop and decorate.

I AM READING a book about Wyoming at bedtime. The Meadow by James Galvin. Nice vignettes about the state, much lighter than Annie Proulx.

I AM HOPING that I can find another box or 2 to take to the Lutheran Mission this week. Then head to the books for clear out.

FROM THE KITCHEN I think it will be a pot roast today. Maybe shortbread too.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS is hot tea ready for me when I get up.

A FEW PLANS FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK. See if those friend lunches are possible this week and check CHOW for Boston restaurants, tho there are always our old favorites.
