Happy Pumpkin Piggy Weekend

This shot came from a friend of a blogger I follow. She's a woman in Yorkshire so that's a winner for me.  The Weaver of Grass said one had to go look at these photos of pigs and pumpkins so...I had to have a go. Just thinking of delicious pork on the table was enough for me. <--- that should be a whisper I suppose so those lovely porkers stay content.

But enjoy this image from Kitchy & Co.   How can you not smile!

Have a great weekend!

Travel With Me Tuesday: Goodbye Yorkshire Hello London

I like pages that include maps because in later times looking back on these trips it's always interesting to trace our paths. It was a nice train ride but still it was good to get off, get a coffee and walk to our London rental. Stage 2 of our trip had begun!

TBT: More of a 1971 Sunny Day in Yorkshire

In 2014, I did an earlier post about this day in Yorkshire. There is not a lot of rhyme or reason to some of my older scanning I fear. Now I am paying the price and going through albums in order. These photos tell more of that earlier story. I now see that we had a day in the Yorkshire Dales and yes, as my friend Cat noted, not as close to my Knaresborough home as I'd said. She was living in Yorkshire when I wrote the first post and went "over the top' to Skipton a lot more than I ever did.

My cousin Donnie, who was about 15 then, down at the water with my son and husband. There was nothing my son loved more than skipping stones in the river, here the River Wharfe.

I don't know exactly where in the Dales this was exactly  but it certainly gives you an idea of the height of that massive rock formation. Lots of open land for little boys to run and run also.

Not many trips up here after we had two sons and not many days I remember as sunny and bright. These days were special.

TBT: A Yorkshireman in 1972

Ok, not a man but a little boy born in Yorkshire. After 30 years, I finally got some of my older photo albums from former husband.  I wonder if he has any memories of his children from these times. The one of me and #2 son is on Thanksgiving 1972 and the one with his father is later that year.

Remember when we had to pay for film and then developing?  I rarely shot in b&w but did at this time. A shame because my dress was a fine orange wool!

I suspect this photo is one where Daddy is bouncing him and asking "Are you a happy boy?" No doubt, he was. Hopefully he is as happy today.

TBT Sunny Days in Yorkshire 43 Years Ago

I'm thinking this was in the late summer of 1971 a time when my grandmother and cousin came over to England. If it was, then we took my grandmother hostage and kept her til the following year. I in the early days of my 2nd pregnancy here and had a 2nd son in January 72 and my mother came over to visit and the two of us went to see the bulbs of the Netherlands. Nana wanted to leave earlier but my mother convinced her to stay til spring so the could fly home together.

In 1971 my grandmother would be 75 years old. I'm not far from that now which is a strange thing to think of.

I didn't know which village this was but thanks to the internet I found out that it is in Hebden, outside of Skipton in the Yorkshie Dales.  The Clarendon Hotel. Not terribly far from our home in Knaresborough but a bit of a nice country drive with visitors. Sitting outdoors in the summer sun was not as common then as it is today - weather seemed cooler back then - and I see my xh has a turtle neck under his shirt and my grandmother's coat is on the table. I am wearing tights (lacey but substantial ones) under my bell bottom jeans. I still have that road atlas!

My cousin was about 15 then and stayed for a couple of weeks if I recall correctly, sharing a bedroom with our firstborn.  The boys are dressed for summer and seem to have been content. Happy days. 43 years ago.

TBT Knaresborough Before My Time

I suspect this image of the River Nid and the ever present boaters may have been taken in the 1950s. We moved there in 1968 and most postcards were  in color (colour) then.
