Five on Friday: August 22, 2014

It's been a while since I did this one so you would think I have a lot of thoughts. Not quite since I've spent a lot of quiet time. Not thinking. Just being.

1. Is there a reason someone 'likes' a Pin on Pinterest but doesn't Pin it?  Is that supposed to make the original pinner happy or get a large score or what?

2. My dh and eldest grandaughter are coming home today from almost a week in Alaska fishing. I believe there is also fish coming back with them!

a small cod of hers

3. Tuesday was one of those 'heavy' days where the humidity and warm weather just seemed to hang. The kind of day that feels like it wants to rain. I was at my volunteer job and the teenage girls were acting up, no one was on time and everything seemed to be in confusion. I suspect the weather unsettled people and was to blame.

4. Smoked string cheese! I found it at Wegmans and oh I love it. I could eat the whole package I fear.

5. Today I had my first visit back at the chiropractor for a while. My neck was getting pretty stiff from both the strange angle it's at in the water aerobics with the flotation device as well as straining to see some things on the computer. You'd think it would balance out but it didn't.  Feels good now!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend and I'll see you again on Monday.

Five on Friday: May 23, 2014

1. Sometimes hanging out on Pinterest is a rabbit hole of time gone but other times you see something terrific or clever or a combo of those. Here's one.

2. Ok, back to my thoughts. As much as I get rid of clutter, more seems to rise to the surface. I know, dear God I hope, it will balance someday but other times I feel as if I'm on a hamster treadmill.

3. Summer class registration came early this month and I finally got round to signing up for classes I wanted. I decided to take water aerobics and give my knee a break but found I could not sign up for the yoga at the same time. Since I pay the same amount whether I take one class or ten, I didn't quite get it. The water aerobics is Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the chair yoga is only on Friday. I planned to skip Friday aerobics so I could do the yoga but there was no way the computer could understand that! I will just tell my yoga teacher I'm coming but not signed up 'officially'. Hope that works for her.

4. You wannna see gorgeous, as in drool on your keyboard gorgeous, well take a look over here.  I don't know if I really want to make such things because I know I would eat it all! ALL.

5.Tis the season - for salads. Mason jar salads. I have been meaning to try this method for some time but with the cold, cold winter we've had I really wanted more substantial food. I would have been better off with some salads but comfort won out.

Peppermint has one of the clearest descriptions of how she makes hers. One Little Bird Mason Jar Salads. I'll have to check for some 1.5 pint jars amongst my canning supplies because I agree, a pint is not enough. If not, head to WalMart fast!

Five on Friday: January 31, 2014

Lord almighty, January is done. That was fast! A long trip like our California trip always gets me discombobulated in regard to time. It seemed like January only started when we got back which of course is far from the truth but my inner clock didn't buy it for a while.

And this cold!  I am so done with it. Me and how many others? Mostly I can just stay inside and I do. Outdoors is so overrated right now.

1. While looking at Pinterest early this am, waiting for my space heater to get a-going, I saw a bunch of wind chimes, sadly many without directions. I'm not clueless but I prefer to know how. In any case wind chimes always take me back to the cheap old glass ones from China that used to be sold in the 5 & Dime stores. I wonder if they are still made anywhere. I loved that tinkly glass sound. Delicate.

2. I started making a red lentil soup earlier in the week. Many things got in the way and all I have are some partially cooked lentils. I wonder if I'm now making fermented lentil juice. Today is a day for a recipe search and get those babies into something. Something that included coconut milk cause I'm in a coconut mood. South Indian seems good.

3. My cortisone shot for the knee is now scheduled for Feb 10th. Thank you snowstorm for delaying that for a month. I also have to go about 20 miles to another office. Pffft. I gripe because yesterday my knee hurt a lot, and strangely the pain was on the outer side of the knee, not the usual inner side. Mysteries abound.

4. Sometimes I wonder how foolish I can still be.  My ceiling fan which gets little use in the winter was appallingly dirty. The fan is over my computer, desk, and many other bits of clutter scattered hither and yon. My cleaning intentions have not come to fruition lately but one day I decided to use a little duster I got in the $ store. Well, even with the fan off, that gentle dragging across the blades gave me a dust shower over all. Yuck. Now I still have a 3/4 dirty fan and gray dust to deal with below.

5. Is this cute or what? I've marked my chargers with green nail polish but I think they are going to get an update.

Five on Friday: December 6, 2013

The weather is playing games with us. We've had temperatures in the 60s which is good for more garden cleanup but not conducive to serious thoughts of winter. It's also the issue of clothes again. I have my winter clothes out in the closet but by afternoon it's not-quite-summer clothes but... Mama Nature, please make up your mind!

And so onto thoughts...

1. Having seen an obituary about a 50ish woman who died from cancer of the appendix, I am grateful that I had my appendix out when I was about 4. But, have you ever heard of cancer of the appendix???

2. Another bit of gratitude.  DH talked to an old buddy for the first time in many, many years, and the man said his adult daughter called asking him which states were ok for her to go through carrying her Glock. WTF? Uh, fortunately, none of our children have ever raised this issue. We suspect we are poles apart from this man politically. Sad, because it would have been nice for dh to connect to someone he was very close too when they were in their teens and 20s. Different paths...

3. Need a good laugh? Thank you Pinterest.

4. Things you learn on the internet. Sometimes they are things you still cannot quite grasp. I saw the word "verucca" and needed to google it. Veruccas are warts. Now, I quote...A wart is a small, rough growth resembling a cauliflower or a solid blister. It typically occurs on humans' hands or feet but often in other locations."  A cauliflower!?!?!?  I will never see that vegetable without imagining it growing in places it shouldn't be growing, especially those 'other' locations.

5. Last but not least, also from Pinterest, a photo described as 'porn pants'. Sadly or fortunately, depending on your tastes, it was just a man in a pair of rather stylish and expensive looking leather trousers. Chacun a son gout.

Yes, this week could certainly have been subtitled News of the Weird.  Just lucky I guess!

Five on Friday: October 18, 2013

This has been one of those weeks. I tried not to fill it up too much while dh was away but it did get jammed. Things went downhill fast on Sunday night when I went to start the dishwasher and saw that the pipes under the sink had come loose.  A lot of scheduled things needed to be shifted with the usual domino effect.  Kind of like when you have children living at home and there's one blip and it ripples out everywhere. I'd forgotten what that is like. Happily forgotten.

1. The under-the-sink episode did get me to thoroughly clean out that area which wasn't too bad other than pureed tomatoes spattered everywhere. It now is a bit more functional and looks tidy. Always a plus in my book.

2. I've started Hospice Training and I'm loving it. However, the twice weekly nightime drive to and fro plus the hours of training add up to a lot of sitting.  With the shifts due to a plumber visit, I've missed some exercise classes that I certainly could have used. Boy was I getting stiff! Next week is the final week and so any driving I do to Easton afterwards will most likely be in the daytime and won't involve Just Sitting.

3. Finally found the missing last bit of Halloween decorations etc. Of course some of the items can move into November but not all. One year, I'll get them all out BEFORE October!! Trouble is is that it's usually still hot in September and my mind doesn't want to go to thoughts of Halloween. Gotta retrain that brain.

4. Have you noticed how many new pins on Pinterest are not full links anymore? Or they link back to Tumbler which is a royal pain because it's just an image. Nada as far as any how to. This makes me cross. Boo Hiss.

5. There's another Vince Flynn 'Mitch Rapp' book on my reading list - The Third Option. I have read one or two of this series  years ago but otherwise I'm reading them in order. Sadly, I just saw the Vince Flynn died this year. Sigh...

It's finally getting more fall like here and with a full moon too! Have a great weekend!

Tuesday Tutorial:Finding the Original Pin on Pinterest

I'm sure you have been as frustrated as I've been to click on a Pinterest pin, only to find that the poster did not link to the original link. Maybe it was just a 'hurry up and repin' or maybe the pinner didn't know how to link to a specific post rather than a whole blog or ... who knows. But I let out a deep sigh when it happens to me. Clicking back to oblivion can be a real pita or perhaps you go back to Tumblr and hit that brick wall. I cannot fathom why some people still use Tumblr but that's another issue...

Karen, aka The Graphics Fairy, put this post up on a clever way to find that original image without clicking into the next century. Click here!

You DO know that The Graphics Fairy has oooodles of free, vintage images don't you? Well, you do now, so do take time to have a good, long at Karen's site. She's really got a treasure trove for you.
