TBT: We're All Doubtful About Clowns

Wy back in 2002, this little pumpkin was not so sure about the clown hired for her birthday party. It was only her 3rd birthday and it was a party with a clown, lots of people and two cakes. As the years went by, birthdays became simpler as the tend to do.

Clowns etc really sounds like a good idea when you want to make your little girl have the best party ever but some things just have to be learned. I look back on photos of my own first birthday and even in war time (WWII) it was over the top!  I wonder if birthday clowns are still hired. Only birthday girl's cousin seems to enjoy him.  Her brother, with the camo face paint, also looks dubious.

Then again, when birthday girl's father has his 3rd or 4th birthday, one of the chunky 4 year old neighborhood girls almost tipped the swing set over with her energetic swinging. Fortunately, we got her off the swing but not happily. Childhood birthday parties...all part of the parenting experience.

TBT: The Man Who Naps

At a picnic at a friends' farm up in the Catoctin area of Maryland, I learned that he was truly ably to take cat naps. A group of us were sitting around talking and someone snapped this for me. zzzzzzz

Flashback Friday - Picnics of Yore

A summer picnic over 10 years ago up an a family farm in the Catoctin area of Maryland. No not my family! The group was from the Utne magazine on-line forum. That's me looking like the tallest one there (standing on a chair) - I'm younger, thinner and still coloring my hair.  We were a diverse group with many talents. I had never seen such a display as the one below. Sometimes you have to put more than your mind to it and a good nose helps! Unfortunately, the forum dissolved over the years but the memories remain - especially when we have photos to remind us.

Flashback Friday - That Old Kitchen

Ever since we've remodeled, I've said I'll take the old shots and take new ones in the same directions. Maybe it will finally get done? But here are two shots from Christmas 2002.

kitchen help is hard to get so I kept him

There is now a bathroom where that window is. Where the old range peeps out is now a wall of cabinets.  I am standing at an adhoc island which is gone to be replaced by a 7'x4' island going in the other direction. Those windows at the back are now a sliding door!  Many changes, much improvement.

Flashback Friday

This little one will be 11 years old on Tuesday...how time flies.

She's no longer interested in a Barbie pink cake and party, but wants (and is getting! courtesy of the heart-stopping eBay auction) a Vera Bradley purse. Actually, it's easier now when I can ask her for a list of what she'd like, and know I can get a gift that pleases her. She's still a beauty ...in size ten shoes!

AAM Monday

This is a short post, but it is all about me. Me on one of my first trips to the South West.

There was so much I wanted to see and so much I STILL want to see, but darn, those states are so big! Looking at a map in Maryland, which takes up one page on the atlas, one can get fooled easily when one looks at a page of Arizona or New Mexico, which each have a page. A page is not a page and it's hard to resist planning more than a person can easily do. Especially a not-so-young person. But I was still in my 50s then!

We took a week to drive around those two BIG states and one of the highlights for me was the Gila Cliff Dwellings. As it was late November, the weather was brisk and we were virtually alone there. It was wonderful! I wonder if my knees could still do it...cause I'd sure like to go back again.
