TBT: 1976 Children in Pattaya
In addition to my daughter, my one of my sons is in this photo with a friend. Our life was such that we were able to rent a beach house in addition to our regular home in Bangkok. While the drive to Pattaya could be hectic and dangerous, the 5 of us plus our maid and her husband made this trek every month. My husband could sit back and let our maid's husband drive as he was skilled in driving and taking care of our Peugeot 504. It was a win-win situation for all of us.
Pattaya still had areas that were quiet and family oriented. It was also still a place where Thai families went. As much as I still love the beach, these years cured me of a desire
to go to the beach in the summer. Hot and humid and I do not play well together. Furthermore, I still have various bits of skin
damage from those days, the days before sunblock. We didn't know what we didn't know.

Five on Friday: November 22, 2013
It's Friday and I have 5 for you.
1. Yes, I'm old enough to remember Kennedy's assassination. I was in college but my ride didn't come and pick me up so I was home for the day. The tv was on because my Nana always liked it on. When the news came on, I recall looking at myself in the mirror in our living room. Was it to see if I believed it? was it to see if I had changed? I don't know but I recall doing that vividly. I also recall that I had a powder blue pleated skirt on. How strange memory is.
2. Today is my last day of vacation and it promises to be a warm - 70ish - humid day. The a/c went on by 7:15 and I doubt it will go off while I'm still here. Beaches are nice; humidity is not.
3. I have done very little cooking on this trip. Just happened that way.
4. While wandering around this island I went to Walmart for some boiled peanuts and found some Christmas ornaments for my grandson's family. Nice to find things associated with his college that were just $2. I'm wise about that because the purple of his high school is no longer in favor so I'll give the college colors a full year before splurging.
5. Pine cones. I have two plastic bags full. These are very fresh and I suspect will last a good while up north. They're way too pretty to spray gold or silver so the old ones may be the ones I decorate!

PL Week 39 Beach Time
Week 39 was a week down at Myrtle Beach. We were fortunate not to have rain nor any sign of a hurricane. What we did have was a man with shingles and a grandson too jammed for a visit. I worried (rightly so) that he was burning himself less than a year after having mononucleosis. But it was just as well that he was so busy because the drive to and from Columbia might not have been so good for my own patient. We didn't even leave Myrtle Beach and the only jaunt was to North Myrtle Beach! LOL
The views from the villas never fails to impress. Gotta love that ocean view and sound.

Flashback Friday: A Day at the Beach
One of the most beautiful places in the United States I think. I'm glad to have a chance to share this one with a special grandson pretty soon. No one can quite prepare you for the Pacific.

Flashback Friday: Oh Those Summers
Summers at the beach when my now 40sumthin' sons were young. Summers with my mother, their grandmother who missed having them around so very very much. The boys she always wanted - a continent away most of the years she had with them. But the days at the beach house...oh that meant the world to her. It's funny to see that in this photo she's wearing 'my' hand-me-downs, a pants outfit made for me by my dressmaker in England that was too warm for Thailand. I was the one taking the photo but today looking at it, my heart is really in it. It just took me a while to see that.

Flashback Friday
This is a shot taken by my mother in April 1978 and I will guess it was in Hawaii or the Caribbean. I wasn't there and she is no longer alive...so a beach in 1978 it will have to remain.
