Travel With Me Tuesday: We Leave for England

Much of a vacation is the to-ing and fro-ing. I usually consider this the worst part but sometimes if I take my time and observe it can be pretty damn good. There's what I call the final cut. Unfortunately, I was distracted at the last minute and neglected to pack a fleece or down sleeveless vest. Big Mistake.

Off to BWI for a BA flight. People always say..Is it a direct flight? Now that is good because direct means you don't change planes. But what I want to know is it a NON_STOP flight??? I get on here and get off there, wherever my there destination is. Well BA's non-stop BWI-LHR is as good as it gets for where we live. I'll take it!

This end of the terminal is clean and rarely crowded. Perfect.

A leisurely walk and despite the attractiveness of the child play area, it was only for adults WITH a child. I moved on. Then came the wait.  The staff called many many peoples' names asking that they come up to the counter. I watched. They didn't come and it became almost like a game.  Will they check in? will they make the flight?

We were told it was a sold out flight but once on board we found there were empty seats. Apparently some people just didn't make it.

This seemed to be a weird configuration and we wondered if we'd have this peepy hole for the full flight. No we didn't but I missed seeing that empty space get filled. Magic I presume!

Time to go to sleep and wake up in London! Thank you Ambien.

Travel With Me Tuesday: Last Night in Budapest Then Getting On the Plane

An early wakeup at our hotel and it was time to get on the bus to the airport. Breakfast boxes for the tip or the plane and a las look at Budapest at night. Leaves falling. Winter coming.  The end of a long but interesting trip. It was the ideal time for a trip like this.

TBT: 1968 and He's Flying to London

As I will be away on this little boy's birthday, so I'll put it up now.

In July 1968, he was just about one month shy of a year. He had already been on an airplane flying from Texas to Maryland at 6 weeks. Now he was going with his parents across the pond. He would be there 7 years, with many airplane flights under his belt by 7 and many many more to come.

Dulles airport was quite the place then with a lovely restaurant and note the Saarinen chairs in the Saarinen designed terminal. Flying was so much more comfortable then and it was an 'occasion' rather than the tedious cattle car ordeal we now have.  The next day we would start our life in England and my little Texan would soon be a proper little Brit.

Happy Birthday to my eldest with love from yomama.

AAM Monday: Project Life Week 33 & 34

Week 33 was an easy going week. I hope to have more of those! It was also a week of mild and dry weather that we don't often get in a Maryland summer.

I'm really enjoying doing the 2nd page as a non-quite PL page. It might be a feeling that seemed to permeate the week or just an event that seemed worthy of a page on its own.

Week 34 seemed to start the roll of doctors' appointments for both me and my son who fell off a ladder. Mine were just the eye doctor while his was the emergency room.

My husband and granddaughter came home from their Alaska fishing trip. Both had a great time and the fish followed shortly afterwards.

While we had planned to go out to dinner with son and family and hear all the memories of the trip that was not to be after the serious accident he had. But Dick and I did have a great TexMex meal in Del Ray VA.  Oh that Tres Leches....
