AAM Monday: Project Life Week 17

I always think the weather doesn't affect me much. Let it rain, let it rain. But of course I am as affected as the next person and lots of rain makes me really want to snuggle in and do very little. Well  read and watch movies. Maybe eat popcorn. Week 17 was nothing like that with the sun shining on my cherry blossoms. However, that would come to an end in week 18 when they became a soggy mess. I hate to sweep them up when they are so so pretty but more often than not I pay the price.

That wedding dress only had the beaded sash removed yesterday. I guess it was fitting that I did it on Mothers' Day. It's a mother kind of job, isn't it. And as much as I gripe about the heat, I was just about done with all the rain we had last week. I even watched a movie in bed. It was that kind of week. It just wasn't week 17 which says I'm a bit behind with this Project Life thing. Not that I care much. Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good I say and mostly I believe that.

AAM Monday - The Boy Nailed It

During my many years living abroad, I (we) had servants. Gardeners, cooks, that sort of things, and when it was deemed necessary, a guard to watch our home.  It was the norm for most westerners in those countries. I appreciated it because it wasn't the way I grew up. Both my parents worked, though my mother really was the breadwinner and she struggled to let us live a life that was middle class. Just.  It was only in looking back that I see how hard she worked to make me have things I thought I needed. I knew not to ask for much, but I still asked.

Fast forward to those years with a cook. In Thailand in particular, we had a wonderful maid-cook, Somchit. She loved catering to my then husband and my two blond boys. Fresh seafood was a given in that country and often when my husband and I would go out, I would suggest shrimp for the children's dinner. Easy for her to do and simple. Other times when I would cook, and I did, I might make more elaborate meals mostly because I had someone to do the cleanup. What a joy that was! But in time my middle child asserted himself and  said what later became a family standard. "Gourmet crap again?"

That little blond boy is now a chef for the Fairmont chain of hotels. He has gone from cooking at the late Deli Haus in Boston, while at Berklee, to working on fishing boats in Alaska to cooking...you got it! Gourmet Crap!

Mother's day is always a hectic day no matter what hotel he's at, and this year he is in Southern California.  His Mother's Day greeting via Facebook had both me and my husband burst out laughing. He nailed the perfect image!

Erma Said It

"When your mother asks, “Do you want a piece of advice?” it is a mere formality. It doesn’t matter if you answer yes or no. You’re going to get it anyway." -Erma Bombeck

I had a play day

I decided I wanted to play with pictures yesterday and after tagging a zillion photos (I still have over 2k without any tag...) I got into PLAY mode with some free elements from Designer Digitals that come in their Challenges. I had a lot of fun and seem to be getting comfortable with PE6.

After very nice phone calls from my two sons, we decided to make it an easy dinner and ate at the new Whole Foods. Dick is good at many, many things but cooking for me is not one of them. Our dinner was quick, fun and delicious. Dick did point out that my dinner was about 24cents more than his, but I have a tomato salad saved for today! Lots and LOTS of choices for two at under $9. each. I think this may be a weekly place to eat and I look forward to their classes, something I'm sorry the nearby Sur La Table isn't doing. Oh well...an abundance of riches, still.
