Have a good Weekend

Nothing particular to say today. I've done a good bit of filing of digital supplies today and finished up my September purchases. They're so easy to buy but they sure do take time to organize on the computer.

There are black beans ready to be cooked, there are printed layouts to ohh and ahh about before putting in the album, and there is the final disk of "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy " to watch. Love, love, lovin' it.

So on this delicious fall evening, I hope your windchimes are blowing in a gentle breeze. See mine?

Oh, do have a good pot of tea yourself. I just may go and brew up another one for the night. Have a great weekend!

When it rains, it pours

It's funny that after a very quiet period, our house has seemed very busy. I wonder if that has anything to do with dh fixing the doorbell!

From lots of quiet chez nous, we had a bustle of doorbell ringing Saturday. We had gone out to breakfast with friends, something we hadn't planned, and when we came home I decided after a bit that I would take a nap. I do this about 3 times a year. I don't nap easily and I was just drifting off to sleep when the doorbell rang. My son and grandson here in Annapolis. That was just the first of many many rings that day.

Sunday seemed the same! Now today is starting with a drizzle so I wonder if it will be a quieter day or the same? I don't know...but I'll be at coffee with one friend at 8:30, coffee with another at 1:30 and at the physical therapist at 6:00. This time dh will have the doorbell to himself unless the cat gets interested in answering the door!

Taming the Jungle

Yesterday was spent doing more work in the garden. Crowd control. So many weeds sprang up in the month we were gone and then were well nourished in the week or more of daily heavy rain. It was daunting. However before we left we realized our weed whacker had died and so that was one of our first purchases upon return. I don't usually like to do the brick driveway that way but sometimes it's a necessity. When I first starting pulling the weeds about a week ago, my right thumb went slightly black and blue so hand pulling had to slow down.


Then there is the front yard. Very very small (~20x20)fortunately with a cover of pachysandra under the flowering cherry tree. Well the pachysandra is now being covered with ivy which is being covered with variegated vinca. And..the pin oaks are springing up in that density, and I have finally come to realize the two I had let grow have to be cut. There is no way they can survive there without doing damage to the sidewalks and the house foundation in time. They were to be moved to the back when they were smaller but we missed that window. Such is the nature of gardening.


Dick spent most of the day putting the icing on the cake together - a new grill to replace our older one which blew over in a wind and had also lost its auto ignition.
Dick also (!) cut the back grass when he was done and I got exhausted just watching him. By late afternoon we realized we would have to pass on a party on the Eastern Shore. A test of the new grill with hamburgers, As Time Goes By and our serious yawning set in shortly afterward. Bed really felt good - bed and the air conditioning.

This Weekend

• In California, Once in a Blue Moon shares the beauty of her fabulous garden. Jain is also a breathtaking cook.
  

• Why do we blog and/or scrapbook? Ali gives her answers. I think a lot of them fit a lot of us.

• I saw this link over on Ginny's Small Studio and if you want to spend half a day looking at house ideas, then the Hooked on Houses Friday post already has 55 in MrLinky. I don't dare go there right now.

  But tomorrow for me is a studio day with my Artist Way peeps. I don't know what I'm gonna take to work on, so I had better get going with my housecleaning and ...ugh...gardening. At least the laundry is on the line, the new sheets are going on the bed, and I have both food to eat and a movie to watch tonight. When the dh is away it's movie time for me! What are your plans? Hope they include some fun thing for just you.
  

Twas a lazy Sunday

Clocks went forward and both of us slept in. We'd had a lovely visit across the Potomac with family Saturday night, and they fed us well. We saw all the grandchicks and thoroughly enjoyed a quiet evening with lots of catchup.

Today was a day with little to do and only a few things got done. There is little puritan work guilt in this household! Did you have a good weekend? I hope so.

A Full Weekend

Lots of things going on, and all nice ones. I realized I was really really tired Friday afternoon, and ended up taking a nap tho when it's 2 hrs that's beyond a nap! It felt good even tho I missed my Artist Way group in Baltimore, but I did take a pic to show I'm still working on my Silliness.



Saturday a good friend who is a hvac man came over and finished doing the ductwork that was left undone during the renovation. Our original hvac man got into a huff when he found out he needed a permit in the city of Annapolis. That's how it's done here, hon! This isn't Baltimore! Mike had also come a week earlier and helped clean the cellar out so he could get the duct work in. Thanks soooo much!! A check we were glad to write!


Then a chance to go out with friends for dinner here in Annapolis. Guess which two were out in the garden in the afternoon? Yep, those two red faces on the right. On the drive back to our house, I had a chance to ride in the Porsche. Made me think about the one I used to have!



Sunday am...a breakfast I've been meaning to make for a while. Unfortunately, Dick had already eaten when I got around to making the eggs in salsa.



The eggs are actually poached in the salsa.



Then some time enjoying the garden - makes the hard work somewhat worthwhile. ;-)



Finally dinner of pasta with gruyere sauce (upscale mac and cheese), grilled salmon and roasted asparagus. It was so nice to have the new crop of herbs for the salmon marinade - chives and lemon thyme. A really fresh taste.



Uhmmmmmm. Very good and all gone!
