AAM Monday: Project Life Week 15

Not the usual pocket scrapping for this week but then again it wasn't the usual kind of week. It included a very early Easter and a  departure for a short week in Boston.  Boston will be done on it's own but I wanted this week's pages to flow in my D ring binder. So...

The left page has all the shots in a template design style that I will probably use for Boston. I've been there a lot and I was on my own with a very sore heel. Not a lot of exciting things but that's just how it was. It was good but I'm getting ahead of myself here. Back to these pages.

Not much in the way of embellishments but with all those images I think there's enough visual excitement!

There was more playing around with this page, just enough to keep the creative side of me happy. I'm not one to want to spend hours on a page nor do I have to be a saleswoman as part of a CT so this bit of creating with my stash was what I wanted. btw, week 15, for me, included soft shell crabs for Easter dinner AND a crab cake mid week. That's just how we roll in Maryland!

Here's how the two page will look in the binder. I don't DO pages as a 24"x12" but I often put the two pages into a blank 24"x12" file just to see how they balance. This final image is just for the web and I usually delete it after posting here and there.

The use of simple pocket pages with other more 'artistic' ones gives me a good balance and keeps me enjoying what I'm doing. If a hobby isn't fun, then, really, what's the point?

Five on Friday: April 3, 2015

Where was my brain last week, I don't know. Five on Friday came and went and I was not on Friday.  As I've said with the Daylight Savings change, my mind has been scrambled. I think the brain cells are settling a bit now though! Here goes.

1. Elise has this terrific new daily planner for pre-order. Check it out. Seriously, it's really good looking and goes from mid July onward.

2. The flowers are finally blooming, both indoors and out. With some good sunshine as well as not 'too' warm temperatures, I may have a chance at getting the garden clean up done before the 'below the surface' weeds start to sprout. I really no longer like garden work but it's the price one pays for having a house.

3. With family scattered and the only nearby daughter vegetarian, I had to disappoint my dh with his wish for an Easter ham. "There's nothing like a good ham..." he said wistfully. But with just one person eating the leftover ham, it can hang around for a long, long time. The last ham had to be tossed when the portion not frozen had come to the end of its edible time. This is what I'd really have liked on the menu...

4. Back to my tv watching. I picked up a dvd of The Borgias at the library earlier this week. When I put it into our old dvd player/recorder, it loaded but would not play. Just as well as I then saw that while it was Season1, it was the 2nd dvd in the series. I'll have to check Netflix one of these days for it as I think our dvd player is almost toast.

5. My friend permanently loaned me her popover pan recently. This is the kind of thing where one of you keeps it until the other one wants to use it and then it changes home. There are many great kitchen items that benefit from this kind of status. Another friend has my raclette maker which I should have borrowed back this past winter. It was a good winter for raclette but alas I didn't think of it during the days of sub zero temperatures. Perhaps I should put it on the calendar for a November pickup this fall. Maybe that will guarantee a milder winter. I only wish.

TBT - Easter in England 1971

My mother had started the habit of holding his basket and then rehiding the eggs on him when we realized he was a very good spotter at age 2. We would have needed several dozen eggs for his eagle eyes. Here he is looking at the basket, age 4, thinking something fishy is going on again.

Cat or Easter Bunny

Ah Sebastian, you still have a secure place in our hearts. I saw this photo on my ehd and it was called Easter Cat. I don't know what year I took this but it was over 5+ years ago and I felt he needed a little page of his own. His memory can be my Easter Bunny.

I like this little guy, though I think his greeting should be in French, don't you? I also learned from an internet friend that in Belgium,  flying bells, not the Easter Bunny deliver chocolate eggs to good children. Those bells, apparently, fly to Rome each Easter....to help ring in the Easter? We had no chocolate eggs in our yard. I blame the man who lives here for the bad behavior. It certainly could not have been moi.

The more I look at this image, I believe Monsieur Lapin may be an alter ego of chocolatier David Lebovitz. C'est vrai!

Five on Friday March 22, 2013

1. It is a fact that winter dormancy causes the fibers in clothes to shrink. I see it happen most years. Actually, I've seen it happen with summer clothes too so it must be a fiber defect all round.

2. Thought by many mothers but said by  Jeanette Winterson's mother "the devil led us to the wrong crib."

3. Having St. Patrick's Day and Easter just two weeks apart messes with my minimal holiday decorating. One has to lose. Actually this probably just makes life easier in the end.

4. As many cuisines as I've exposed my dh to, he doesn't seem to have fallen for Persian (Iranian) food. Maybe you have to have had it at the source as I did.

5. Now there are Easter breads galore out there but this one is right up my alley.

 

Casatiello - Neapolitan Easter Bread

Easter sure has its share of chocolate and other sweet treats, so I like this bread's change of pace. It's a brioche type bread with bits of salami and cheese. Oh yes, she says! I may even try to make it since it's unlikely I'll be in Italy this Easter.  Most likely I'll be dog sitting though the dog does like cheese and he likes salami. He's not hot on bread though.

Easter 2012

We often have Easter dinner at my son's house in VA.  Our grandchildren are really past the easter egg hunting but sometimes there are other families invited who have smaller children. The eggs are not hard boiled eggs but instead the neon bright plastic eggs. There is also one silver egg for each child and the rule is you cannot have more than one silver egg. Silver eggs have money in them from $1, $5 to the one that has a $10 bill in it!

The oldest grandchildren hide the eggs, and this year the grass was lush and thick so hiding didn't have to be in obscure places. Watching the youngest one run from here to there was so much fun! At 5 or 6 he still had that exuberance for the chase. When he found a silver egg, everyone encouraged him to open it!! Jack was the recipient of the $10 bill but at his age, the money was not as special as the fun of looking for more eggs.

Later after most of us were sitting round the table talking and lingering over dessert, the children were in the next room with a dance video on. Young Jack went to town watching and pretty much making his own moves to the music. Mary, however, watched and watched, really concentrating on what one was supposed to do. She was certainly 'processing' rather than just jumping in. When I saw the photo of this, I decided she really wasn't planning on dancing, she was planning on flying! Thus the seed of thought for this page was planted.

Sunday Serenade - Lots of Grilling Leads To...

Last night I grilled about 6lb of asparagus. The scent of smoke still lingers in the house this morning. Yes, I had the exhaust on but I think it's time to light a candle and banish the final bits of smokey odor. Brian Ferry at least makes it sound romantic. A nice cover on the more well-known Platters version. Happy Easter!
