AAM Monday: Project Life Update

This afternoon, I will actually be doing week 33 which just ended but this week I am still thinking of doing a modified Week in the Life for week 34. Hey, a week is a week, right?

Back to the prior weeks, 31 and 32. It really starts to hit me around this time that the year is on the downward slope. My son and family take their August vacation at the beach though I only had to do one night of dogsitting. There are college 'men' for that job now. I've already walked into a cobweb or two outside (horrible horrible...) but have yet to see that distinctive change of light. I hope I notice it to record this year. I'm still making sun tea though it takes a bit longer.

Summer is still summer but I'm ready for it to end. I don't like being hot and I'm kind of tired of white t-shirts.  But for the most part we've had a relatively mild summer. Sadly, the lack of ripe tomatoes or any tomatoes is the result. I can't have it both ways but I always hope I can!

But the days have been nicely lazy and I feel like I've enjoyed summer more than usual. I'm still a cold weather woman or at least fall but I'm enjoying the rest of the seasons more and more as I age. I guess that's wisdom.

AAM Monday: Project Life Week 8

This has been some of the slow season, the time when we're done with winter but winter doesn't know it. I can say that because I looked at what was going on last year at this time. Deja vu all over!

At least some of the  snow was while I had a short dogsitting gig with the company of my two teenage granddaughters. No school for them the entire time. That put a whole different spin on my time over in Virginia. Basically, I almost never left the house, while they had 'play dates' with friends whose families have SUVs. Worked for me!

AAM Monday: August 11, 2014

Back from my week of dogsitting,  I accomplished a few things.

I was able to - get a fairly good handle on PSE11 after balking about starting to use this version for quite a while. I still find a few things wonky but I managed to make a few layouts in this version.

I was able to - enjoy time with the not so happy dog and adjust to his schedule and his ways. I did come home, however, with black and blue marks on my leg and stomach from his jumping up now and then. His family can handle that. I can't.

I was able to - manage to eat fairly well considering I didn't do much that didn't involve sitting at the computer or sitting watch tv.

I was able to - finally learn how to use the Verizon DVR and watch shows and concerts that I'd never managed to see before. Where have I been all these years???

I was able to - survive on one, just one,  Trader Jo's special chocolate bar during the week. Chocolate is not junk food.

I was able to - get to the Farmers Market and get luscious peaches, tomatoes and some lima beans. The latter came home with me for my dh.

It was a darn good week.

Project Life, Moving Along - Week 13

I was glad to get this week done, as it had this poignant image of my dil's dog Ranger. He is always a good dog to sit for but oh he misses his family. This dog-sit was only a brief three days which is usually about the time he starts to come around.  When it's a full 7 days, he tends to be a little less needy by day 3.  He's getting older - aren't we all! - and he has always had mournful eyes. I hope he'll still be around for a sit during the annual beach week. I enjoy his presence.

We're getting close to the end of the first quarter of the year. I think PL makes me more aware of the seasonal changes and the passage of time. It's sort of the analog version of scrapbooking, even if the process is done digitally!

5 Fact Friday - December 21, 2012

This meme comes from

Well here we are again. Alive...still, and able to blog. So what are my facts? Rather limited since it's just me and an ancient dog who likes to spend his days sleeping.

1. I am spending a week dog sitting over in Virginia. With short days, and last minute Christmas shoppers out and about on the already overcrowded roads, I plan to vegetate for the most part. The dog is my role model.

2. One lens fell out of my glasses yesterday and I do not have my dh & his collection of eyeglass screws to fix the frame. Thus I may end up on those roads. Directions call for making a U-turn near the Pentagon! bwahahaha! As if I'd like to try this and live.

3. There is a live Christmas tree in this house which is something I don't have at home. It smells wonderful and the needles are not my responsibility. Woohoo!

4. This tree has a funnel in the branches for watering! Who knew? My son apparently knew.

5. I am repeatedly wearing out the battery life on the electronic iToys I brought with me. Use and charge; use and charge; repeat; repeat. I miss my iMac which is so a first world woe, isn't it...

That's all for this week, folks! Have a great weekend! and do check out the other bloggers on that link at the top of this post.

Winding Up the Dogsitting

As much fun as it's been to be on my own for a couple of days, NO responsibilities to anyone except an easy going 'mature' dog, I'll kind of be glad to go home. The arrival of summer full blast yesterday made me less inclined to go off to the nearby outlets especially as I really didn't need anything. Shame about that!

I've also been tasked with watering the plants which is no big deal except now it means waiting til almost 8 to water in the shade. I think the mosquitoes must hear me open the door because it feels buggy out. Or maybe it's just that we've had such a long springlike time that I'm just not used to them. Moving the sprinklers round every 10-15 min last night gave me a few soaks which felt darn good!

This is one thing I wish we had at my house. Interesting that the milk delivered here in VA is actually produced in Maryland.

The reason I am here? This sad looking boy. I can't tell if he's counting the days til his real Mama comes home? or is he sad that I'm not watching another movie/tv series on Netflix? or does he know that I'm going out to hopefully get a haircut? I was thinking about letting my hair grow  - til it got hot. Now I realize that a project like that is best done in cooler weather!

But seriously....look at that face. He couldn't get much closer to me on the couch unless he sat on my lap!

Rainy Day, Sleepy Day, Sick Days

I am still dog sitting in Virginia, but it hasn't been the greatest of days.

The dog is fine but I'm not. The day my family left, I came down with a wicked sore throat and many aches and pains. I sure didn't feel like exploring the wondrous shops and stores that always seem so tempting when I am on the other side of the Potomac. Couch and bed sounded perfect.

I did manage to go to one of the Asian markets and get myself some food but that was about it. Of course once I had food, I no longer had the energy to cook it. Fortunately, I had brought some leftovers from home with me. I certainly haven't starved, and I rarely even lose any weight when I get sick.

I have managed to read two books so far - Bangkok Days, Lawrence Osborne. Pretty much a sleaze read but nice to have a walk down the sois of a city I used to live in. Live in. Not barhop in. I started Deborah Tannen's You're wearing THAT? but stopped because I found it depressing to think how many meta messages we send and receive without knowing it. I usually enjoy Tannen's books but I think this one will have to be for later.  I guess I've only read one book. I also started and decided to pass on Schrödinger's Ball by Adam Felber. With a fever, I thought I didn't need any hallucinatory reading. My mind isn't all there as it is right now. Finally, I started and think I'll enjoy Thomas Kennedy's Falling Sideways.  The chapters are short which helps when I'm never sure how much mental energy I'll have.

Back from a run to the Giant grocery i.e Redbox because being sick always means movies for me. I brought the old 17" MacBookPro which is still great for Netflix and Redbox. I've seen "Hereafter" and "Then She Found Me". Liked them both but preferred the latter even tho I felt like Helen Hunt was deep into anorexia. Colin Firth...ah yes. Next up is 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" Ah I miss those books...a LOT. Bring on the popcorn! Maybe "The Fighter" tonight or maybe not. The dog doesn't care, he just sleeps!
