5 Fact Friday - January 25, 2013

Well it seems that the original meme for this is no longer ongoing. However, it does remind me to think of things, so I'm going to keep on it.

1. I like structure in my life because with structure it's easier to be free to do spur of the moment things.  That works for me.

2. In summer, I'm up and out by 6 a.m. but in winter I could stay in bed, happily dozing, til 8 a.m.  However, my M, W, and F aerobics class starts at 8:15 so it's 7:00 for me these days.  I just don't like to get up in the dark. The cold doesn't bother me as much.

3. In winter, I like to put things outside on the table on the deck. A spare fridge. However, when it drops to the 20s at night, I should remember to bring things in. I have a bag of frozen mineolas now. Live and learn.

4. I am happily plugging away in Lightroom and have about 1/3 of my digi supplies imported and the previews basically tagged. It helps that almost all my supplies are in folders by designer, and then subdivided into categories for the major designers.  That does allow me to get a few more tags/keywords on while importing.

5.  I have a friend who lives by the Chesapeake Bay. I love visiting her, for her company and wisdom, but also to have a look at her wonderful view. I get to see it now and then and don't have to pay waterfront housing prices. She makes cards too and sells them for charity. Look at those punches just waiting...

5 Fact Friday - December 21, 2012

This meme comes from

Well here we are again. Alive...still, and able to blog. So what are my facts? Rather limited since it's just me and an ancient dog who likes to spend his days sleeping.

1. I am spending a week dog sitting over in Virginia. With short days, and last minute Christmas shoppers out and about on the already overcrowded roads, I plan to vegetate for the most part. The dog is my role model.

2. One lens fell out of my glasses yesterday and I do not have my dh & his collection of eyeglass screws to fix the frame. Thus I may end up on those roads. Directions call for making a U-turn near the Pentagon! bwahahaha! As if I'd like to try this and live.

3. There is a live Christmas tree in this house which is something I don't have at home. It smells wonderful and the needles are not my responsibility. Woohoo!

4. This tree has a funnel in the branches for watering! Who knew? My son apparently knew.

5. I am repeatedly wearing out the battery life on the electronic iToys I brought with me. Use and charge; use and charge; repeat; repeat. I miss my iMac which is so a first world woe, isn't it...

That's all for this week, folks! Have a great weekend! and do check out the other bloggers on that link at the top of this post.

5 Fact Friday: December 14, 2012

This meme comes from

Fact 1. This year I am not doing a December Daily. Somehow, after the trip this fall, I really had no incentive to do it. I am enjoying looking at everyone else's, and may even get the 'gitupandgo' to do a few digital memory ones myself. The 'gitupandgo' means looking through old photo albums and scanning the photos. I suspect that may not happen.

Fact 2. I managed not to gain any weight on the trip despite the prodigious amounts of eating we did. I even had dessert twice a day usually! My doctor was pleased with me, and so was I.

Fact 3. While I love my new external hard drive that is working as my backup, the flashing white light when it's 'working' is really annoying. At least it's not a blue light.

Fact 4. My husband had a torn retina years ago. I called it his 'exploding eyeball'. Now a friend of mine also tore hers.  What I mean is that she had a torn retina, and the description of the surgery made me want to put my head under the covers and block the idea out.

Fact 5. I left one pair of black shoes on the ship because I was done with them, but I also left another black pair that was supposed to go in my carry on bag. I no longer have a good daily black pair and I really don't feel like fighting the Christmas crowds to get a new pair.  Thus I expect to wear tan Clarks until mid January.

wearing Christmas socks though!

5 Fact Friday: November 2, 2012

There didn't seem to be a 5 Fact Friday at the 'mothership' site but I'm hoping there is one this week. In any case, this meme comes from

So what facts can I come up with this week...

1. We survived Hurricane Sandy just fine thank you. No loss of power, no internet out, no trees or power lines down. Sadly, many parts of the east coast are not able to say the same thing, and the devastation in NY and NJ is terrible. I suspect recovery will take a lot of time...

2. I bought about 8 new pairs of socks at Target. I have a reason, but one of them is the winter stuff will be gone soon. It always is.  All the socks are black and/or gray except for two wild pairs of kneesocks. I'm hoping they don't clink to my slacks/jeans.

3. Did you know that if you rub hand lotion right on your socks or tights or whatever you might have on your legs in the cold, you minimize the static cling?

4. I have been alternating oatmeal with grits, bacon, and eggs for breakfast. That seems a good balance to me. I'm hoping my heart agrees.

5. Those things are on my dining room table for a reason.

5 Fact Friday - October 26, 2012

Here it is Friday and that means 5 Facts! I've never been short on either opinion or fact. "Fact" of course is often just a subjective view, but inside my big noodle, as my children called the brain, they tend to behave as facts. This, of course, is more the reader or listener's problem rather than mine! However, here I speaketh the truth.

This meme comes from

1. Chocolate for me is milk chocolate, period, and I absolutely adore the 1lb Belgian chocolate bar sold at Trader Jo's. Don't ask how often I buy one. You really don't want to know.

2. In high school, I loved debate and my specialty was extemp - Extemporaneous Speaking. See sentence 2 in the first paragraph of this blogpost.

3. The meniscus in my right knee is not only torn but pushed out of place. Shockingly so.  I now have bone hitting bone there but the surgeon and I agree that surgery is not called for - yet. Periodic cortisone shots seem to help a lot. That and Aleve may buy me time.

4. Years ago when I lived in damp, cool, northern England, I grew roses, beautiful, healthy roses. I grew them by putting them in the ground. My house was built on an old pig farm. I had soil, oh did I have great soil.  When I lived in Thailand I had orchid plants up the gazoo. Anywhere you walked, you were in danger of banging your head on an orchid.  Beautiful orchids, all very cheap, like under $5.  The moral is - garden with native plants and you'll do just fine.

5. I've started a new volunteer position, as a Student Coordinator. I'm not sure if I need my brains examined as I have learned that working with volunteers is often like 'herding cats.'  Time will tell.

5 Fact Friday - October 19, 2012

Sometime you just have to change things about, and this is one of them.  I think I will always be able to find five facts for Friday to share with you but sometimes the easy can be the hardest. So Flashback Friday is morphing into another title. (Check back with me on Monday to see what it becomes!)

Will I add any images? I don't know. Maybe I will and maybe I won't. But this first Friday, I won't. btw, I used to do a lot of memes with some very talented Australian bloggers. As much fun as it was, I learned after a while that their craft work was much more handmade - think 'softies' - and most of mine was becoming strictly digital. But it was a lot of fun! So onto the subject at hand.

  1. October is probably my favorite month, but it seems I am almost always traveling in September, October or November, and I never seem to have the time to really enjoy this month.
  2. When I lived abroad, Halloween wasn't celebrated almost anywhere, so my children didn't have quite the 'American' experience now available nearly round the world.
  3. My son, the chef, taught me how to make gnocchi but I have come to realize I really don't like the potato version all that much. Oh well.
  4. I really don't care if my daily tea gets cold before I drink it but then again, it rarely gets cold unless it's the last cup of a 6 cup pot.
  5. The sound of wind going through a stand of bamboo is almost as soothing as ocean waves. Well, to me it is.
