Today is continuing the trend of the weekend. I plan x and y happens. Mostly it's ok, but it still gets me a bit flustered. The many trips we've taken have taught me to go with the flow and not let too many things go to the last minute. I had planned to do a LOT over the weekend. Didn't happen.
I went to watch my grandson play waterpolo, which WAS planned, but he hurt his arm and we thought it was broken. Since he was over an hour from home, and no one was home anyhow - if you're a parent with 3 children, you understand weekends like this - I went to the emergency room with him here in Annapolis where he was playing. By dinner time it was ascertained that the arm was not broken and he had a ride with his coach back to Virginia. I don't begrudge the time at all but when I got home I was zonked and it was an hour of "As Time Goes By" and then zzzzzzzz.
Sunday was a day with a granddaughter at the Science Fair in Washington DC. Can you imagine displays for miles??? There were over 1,000 booths and no we didn't see them all. I didn't even go all day as my dear dh went in the morning to VA to get her and I met them midday in DC. That allowed for a bit of quiet time to recenter myself at home before I went. I needed that as it was a day that lasted until mid evening. We both were zonked when we got home Sunday, and another early night for us both!
Now the cat's meds are ordered, the Ambien is ordered, the list of to-do items is shrinking and so it was ok that the dh realized today....yes, today...that he needed new slacks for the trip. To Target we went. I even got a new laptop bag and ...heheh ... a bag of Halloween M&Ms. Home and more water to drink. Can you believe we will be turning the a/c on tonight to sleep???

The Best Laid Plans..
So much for the great day with my Artist Way peeps. The cat had done his regular barfing during the night AND in the a.m., and I woke up with an upset stomach. Fortunately, mine was just pain which I attribute to too much falafel the previous night. By mid morning I felt ok, and with the increasingly hot weather we were getting, it was a day to work in the garden. Do some planting, come in for some water, do some weeding, come in for some water. Repeat repeat repeat. I used to like gardening as recently as my 40s but then it suddenly became work, not joy. I don't know if I could live in a condo or aparment - easily - but lately it has just been a case of keeping the jungle under control.

I would be happy to grow vegetables but the trees I planted for house shade work all too well, and we have almost no sun in the backyard except for the deck. Yes, containers but they seem to dry up and out when we go on vacations. Are there drought resistant vegetables?
Well, my movie is still to watch, and my right hand has computer mouse finger as well as weed yanking aches in my wrist and shoulder. Sounds like a hot shower, some Aleve and an early night. I bet I don't toss and turn! Not what I planned for the day, but not a bad day in the end.

Up in the Air but not on a Plane
What is it they say about making plans makes God laugh? So much changed this weekend from what we planned, then revised, then planned again. One trip had been planned, then that was changed to another trip. The hotel was booked, the boarding passes printed, and the plans made to meet a friend were confirmed.
Then our old cat Sebastian really seemed to be really worsening...fast. We thought it might be "magic needle" time as we certainly didn't want him kept alive longer just for our sakes. A quick trip to the vet, bloodwork and tests, and signing a dnr form (do not resuscitate).
We still planned to get on that plane (probably) but overnight we came to the decision that this was not the 'next indicated thing' to do. Our friend in CA always uses that phrase as guidance when you aren't sure of what to do next. "Just do the next indicated thing." Terry says. Works for us. A quick early am call to Louisiana let our friend know she would have to eat for us at Sunday brunch at Brennan's'. sigh

When we called for the test results, it turned out to be a treatable issue...this time. Hyperthyroidism. The hardest part is cracking those wee pills into quarters. Ok, so we stay home. Well, sort of...DH decided he DID want to go on the original trip, and I was glad to stay home and do a petwatch to make sure the meds were working. We each get some time alone and sometimes that's the best thing for this marriage. But you know what? I bet dh is planning something even as he's off riding his bike!
