AAM Lightroom Love - I've Got It

Now I only bought Lightroom to organize my digital supplies, remember? Oh has that changed! I'm taking Kim Klassen's on line course, Round Trip, and trying to take the time to play as well as watch all the videos and try to absorb a portion of the information...oh the fun!

I know I won't be using certain things in LR. Probably. For one thing, my images are almost totally iPhone. For another thing, my eyes don't 'see' some of the corrections and adjustments Kim makes, even on a 27" iMac. That's a bad thing but also a good thing. No point in losing sleep over aging eyes. At least I can see!

Well today I took some old images from a trip to Italy. A trip which had as its main purpose - a visit to the Mecca of opera, LaScala.

From what was an image where the blown out white even bothered me to an image that I like. It's got that old world look - a scene from a noir movie set in Italia?? Who knows. But I like it and Thank You Kim and Lightroom.  The cost of Lightroom was much cheaper than Photoshop for me and that leaves money for other goodies. Chocolate! And exercise classes to burn off that chocolate!

Texture Time on Thursday

I drink tea from a pot, not from a teabag.

I truly don't have a lot of experience in using textures, but thought I'd have a go for Kim Klassen's Cuppa Challenge. Use at least one of her textures and a shot of your favorite cup. I have seven mugs that I like very much. Years ago when I was still working, I started using one mug for each day of the week. This 'rest a minute' mug actually came from Michaels' dollar section several years after I retired. It's a reminder to not bite off more than I can chew each day. There is not point in being frazzled in retirement!

None of my images are set up very much like Kim's are so I rarely have a blank background. The textures I used were KK confusion and KK flourish.  A little too dark for me but I wanted to shade out that left side so I used a gradient.  Maybe I'll try it a bit later with other textures to see what I can come up with. Not all projects end up as we hope.

So this is what is more to my liking....same image but with Kim's 1301, and chaos textures.

It's all a learning process isn't it. btw, I decided to do these when my Lightroom install key didn't come in in time for my class yesterday. Funnily enough my trial of LR ended the day before. That kind of synch said...Stay home and watch the Matt Kloskowski video that came with the software. It all works out.

On a Cold December Morn

Listening to a lot of Christmas music lately, I have heard one carol that talks of ...on a cold December morn. That phrase has stuck with me and when Kim Klassen sent the basic photo of her Manitoba fields to us, I wanted to play with it. Several textures, a mask, text and a frame, and I'm happy with it.

I suspect it could have looked just the same way...long long ago.

Tuesday Tutorial: Adding a Flickr Photo to Blogger

This is the basic way of adding a photo from Flickr. Kim Klassen, in addition to her wonderful texture classes, has a lot of videos with loads of tips for photographers, scrappers, bloggers etc. I also like that she has a calm voice and you don't feel frenetic when you listen and try to duplicate what she's doing.

You do have to go into the HTML tab, but even if you haven't tried using that one, it's just a copy and paste. Then you can go back to the non-HTML Compose tab. Easy-peasy. But as Kim says, you do have to re-center, or at least on my Mac you do also. Not sure why this glitch is still around in Blogger or if it is a glitch or if it is a Mac thingy. Sometimes things aren't worth worrying about especially if the fix is as simple as it is. Of course if you want your photo on the left, you don't need to do anything.

Let's Make this Texture Tuesday

I have recently come to love textures, not that I'm really good using them but I love them. A fellow scrapper introduced me to the wonderful work of Kim Klassen. I signed up for her newsletter but hanging head in shame...I still have not tried out one of her textures or 'recipes'.

Fortunately, I got one of those nudges from the universe today when I saw somewhere in the blogosphere that Kim has a 12 Days of Textures going on on her blog. The Cafe. High tail it over there to catch up with the amazing textures. You'll see what she has done with them and read her inspiring story.  When the clouds are the darkest, it only means the sun is sure to come back. 

Oh she also has these simple elegant calendars for sale. Yummy, aren't they!

Tomorrow is the Winter Solstice. Time to go within, and remember the Light is coming back!
