Five on Friday: January 8, 2016
When you (I) go on a vacation right after Christmas AND are sick most of the time, it suddenly is almost, well close to, mid January when one gets back. This is when I feel totally overwhelmed with So Much Stuff about. All that Christmas stuff that I want gone.
Thank God that I started to feel on the mend yesterday. Otherwise, I might just have slept on til February.
1. The main reason for the trip out west was to attend a spiritual retreat up in the hills of Los Altos. Clear air and cleared minds & hearts.
2. Being retired has many benefits. One of them is the ability to sleep as long as I need when I need it. Lately it's been 12-14 hours a day.
3. If people are not mothers or doctors, do they know that when snot turns green it's not a Good Thing?
4. We canceled our early December trip to France because he felt it would be too cold and rainy. Well late December and early January in the San Francisco Bay area was cold and rainy. Do you know heating systems are not omnipresent either?
It looked like this a lot.

5 I have three digital projects waiting to be completed. In order of getting them done, I have December Daily (3 days) and 2015 Project Life (1 or 2 weeks). I've decided that DD takes the place of plain old Project life. Guess what you may see next week? Right now, I've planned nothing for PL 2016 but it may be a monthly thing or just a one pager per week. What about you?
As always, have a good weekend and be good to yourself.

December Daily 6, 7 and 8
I really want to get most of this done before Christmas. For that reason, I think that this year it's going to end on Dec 25, more or less. It all depends on my mood and a couple of other things.

December Daily Day 5
If I allow just over an hour to do one of these I'm good. But somehow there are bits and pieces that take longer than I'd like. Such is life but I still managed to get a pedicure and take my car to the dealer AND get it back. That's big stuff accomplished.
First is the intro page as all binders have that one page at the beginning which is a single page.
Then this is what day 5 looks like when they are together. I'm going to print the left side as two 4x6s and then cut them for the pockets.
That tree bokeh shot is one made using the Camera+ app. I read the tutorial on line but I know not where. I'll have to test it out again on my phone as the only thing I recall is you use the macro setting in Camera+.

December Daily 2015: Slowing Making Progress
Somehow this year, the Christmas season has not really taken me where I'd like to be. I know there was a week or two with just too much going on but I'm also so not in love with our tree. As he said, it goes to charity but as I said, we can wait til January and not try a switcheroo this late in the year. In 2016, I will do a serious tree search for what I want and make it happen.
I now have both my album and finally all my page protectors in the 6x8 size. I have a nice digi folder of things I want to use this year which is a good foundation. What I have found though is that there are not a lot of holiday related photos. I either just don't feel like getting my phone from wherever I left it or I don't think of the photo til it's too late.
But I do have these done...printing will have to come when I'm all done and I will then await my lovely package from Persnickety Prints.
Day 1 did have a really wild Christmas display near the charity shop to which I carted stuff. That really brightened my day.
Day 2 has an image with blurring because my story is a lot of complaining. It sounds so much better when I say I was whinging...well, I think it at least sounds sorta funny.
Just moving right along with Day 3! I decided I wanted to use some of my split page protectors as I had so many of them. I had new ink in my printer but lost my old settings when I updated the driver etc. I finally found out how to scan again AND print but it took time. So the left side is a full page but the right side is 3 sections I printed so I could use just my huge stash of 4x6 photo paper.
Love this new case from Target's $5. bin and I have one of my festive shirts on too. The rest of this day is already printed and IN the album! One page totally final. Progress I guess.
Day 4 done also just sitting in the printing queue.
Back later as I move along with this project. I do like it but I think I'm just not enjoying Christmas so much this year. The world is troubled and so many people are too. All this anger and hostility about is depressing. But - where there's life there's hope and I look for the good each day. Some days are just harder than others.

Five on Friday: December 11, 2015
It's been an ok week so far. I've been plodding my way through the culling of the Christmas decorations. I've got enough to give away but will continue with a bit more after the holidays.
A good visit with a friend gave me some clarity on that hospital visit. Boundaries. Boundaries.
1. Back in my English days, I bought a set of mushrooms like those above. They were glass and came from Germany. I had them for a couple of years and they were my absolute favorites. Then my grandmother came to visit and squished a couple when we were decorating the tree. As the years went by, I was down to one. This year it slipped out of my hand and I am now without mushrooms. Sigh.
2. In deciding to do my December Daily in the 6x8 size, I thought I would print a few things at home. However...after getting new ink and downloading the latest driver, I now have a Canon Quick Menu and it seems beyond me how I can change all my setting directly from PSE. Ok, Canon I'll play your game but not often. Ink is way too expensive so I'll stick to Persnickety sales and print my 6x8s on my 74¢ credit 8x8 prints.
3.When I got the candy for our Italian Lindt calendar, I knew there would be extras. We alternate days and he has peppermint chocolate (ugh) and a milk chocolate truffle. I have white chocolate and plain milk chocolate. Somehow, all our extras have been eaten and it's only day 11. How did that happen I wonder...
4. Very little cooking has been done this past week as he has been out to dinner or lunch quite a bit and thus there have been mucho leftovers - for him. Me? I've managed.
5. It really hasn't been terribly cold yet. In fact it's been pretty mild. Thus I have lavender blooming - still.
So whatever is going on in your neck of the woods, have a great weekend and I'll see you Monday! Be safe and be happy!

Tips on Tuesday December 8, 2015
No travel post today as I've been too busy to get myself into that kind of mode. What I will share are some wonderful quick tips and tutorials I've seen on line. There is a wealth of info out there for free so just keep your eyes open and you'll find a lot to help you with your digital work.
Don't you just love learning how to make something you might have ordinarily bought? but now you can make it your own! How bout this template from Cathy Zielske. I love the video which reminds me of a few skills I'd forgotten and which shows you how to make this. Shortcut keys...if I don't use them I forget them.
Cathy also hared this one on making a Christmas tree shot a bookeh one with an iPhone app. Ok, my tree doesn't look as great as the tutorial one but then it has those crappy colored lights.
Ali Edwards gives a good run down on how to get your December Daily in gear with two videos. These two women are some of the best tutorial writers if you like clean and simple.
On the other hand, equally talented but a woman who takes her art in a different direction is Anna Aspnes. There is a long list of tutorial videos on her blog and if you need a dose of artsy this winter, do play with some of the techniques you'll see in use. PLAY is the word! You'll be surprised where Anna can take you! Here's a recent one which will show you how to include a multitude of images in the Collage style,
Have fun in your learning and if you know all this, then share a tip with me please!
