When we occasionally look at our Spain and Portugal trip, we say....Why haven't we gone back?  It always sounds good - except for the late dinners. I think we should make this one a future priority, especially with the easy airbnb way to stay.

Travel With Me Tuesday: The End Finally Cometh

I tended to wonder if this album would ever be completed and then it was. I had sent almost all the layouts to be printed, got them back and put them in the album. Then I realized I had not done the very last day. It was a very special day for me and one that kind of summed up everything about Portugal that I liked.

This truly has been the largest travel album I've made. It was a great trip and a lot of fun making the pages. The true godsend to that process was the blogposts I made each night. I've neglected doing that for a lot of trips or even making a journal type entry. However, it makes the later album a snap to make. Just sayin'.

Just one more post to come and then I'll have to start another album, won't I???

Nearing the end of our trip, we had to make a few choices about where we would go. Sintra, to the north of Lisbon, was high on our list so off we went. A gorgeous city with some elegant homes and estates.

After our time in Belem,  we had another plan for the day. The tram rides gave us such a good feel for the city and were so inexpensive.  Another big plus was that we could always get off and have a look-see at anything that caught our eye.

The clouds were still looming but that didn't stop us. In any case, when it pours there is almost always a spot to dash in and have a coffee. We didn't though...we mushed on.

After the funicular, it was an elevador. So many methods of transport in one day! And finally, the sun came out as our day was ending.

Did you know that Lisbon is a very hilly city? Somehow I missed that information before we went. We could have done more walking but since we had our Metro pass, that was a good plan. The trams may not be swift but they were faster than our legs would have been.

While we hated to leave Sevilla, we had reservations at the Marriott in Lisbon.  We also expected that it would be a relatively easy drive. We did not count on the weather we experienced.

While getting into Sevilla was a nightmare, the city certainly lived up to its reputation as a beauty.  I had a friend in grade and high school who went to visit relatives in Sevilla long, long ago so it was a city I'd always wanted to see. Fortunately, we were visiting long after the Franco era.

This turned out to be one of my most enjoyable days in Spain. The beautiful weather certainly helped. Seeing the Alhambra was a very moving experience for me. The Arab architecture and design were things I was often unable to see in the years that I lived in the Middle East because of conflict and revolution.  A cultural gap was filled.

Travel With Me Tuesday: Spain 2008 Gibraltar

After our day in Ronda, we headed off to a bit of Britain - Gibraltar. An amazing site to see just coming up out of the water like that. A money change to the British pound from the Spanish euro.

The day was very windy and overcast which was also weather that induced us to buy some leather coats for ourselves. I hadn't planned to get a coat but it's one I've worn a lot since then. A good buy!

As I get more of these pages ready for their album, I'll be sharing them with you. I hope you enjoy a chance to see some of the beauty of Spain and Portugal through my eyes.

This day, back in February 2008, was a trip from coastal Spain up to Ronda. Lots of winding mountain roads and the continued challenge of being sure we were ready to eat when restaurants were open. His stomach didn't always agree with Spanish customs.

Ah yes, I still has my red hair then, over all the gray!
