Back with another photo of me and my friend Mary Ellen. While it's not back to school time, it is a school morning and my mother is coming out of the apartment door while my father takes a photo. Believe it or not my socks were green to match...my uniform jumper? but more likely my Girl Scout sweater.
Mary Ellen and I walked to school so I don't know what was going on that both of my parents were not at work. That's a mystery I may never know as well as why did my father have his? camera then. Perhaps this was a photo for a Girl Scout badge as I did developing then for that badge. Whatever. It's two 9 year old girls squinting and giggling on a typical day before school. And I'm glad to have that memory.

Flashback Friday
Here is yours truly as the Mother of God.
Yes, I was the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Christmas pageant that year. Was it because of my profound spirituality at age 9? No, it was because I had long, long hair.
Shortly after Christmas I was threatened with expulsion from ...5th grade. I was asked if I had been 'saying those bad words' at Christmas when I was portraying Mary?!??! Not one to hold back on the truth, I said ..."Yes." I think the poor nun was shocked. Nothing more to say, so I had my mouth washed out with soap, Ivory, which I hate to this day. My bff has always said she was so very impressed because I didn't cry. We were both sent home on a Friday, but sadly we both were back in school on Monday. No rest for the wicked.
