This is...

...my favorite childhood memory. This week's theme comes from Danielle at TeacupsonTreetops. Thanks for a sweet one.

I truly don't think I have almost any toy, possession etc still around from my childhood so I have to go with a memory.



My Lithuanian grandfather used to take me mushroom hunting in the woods across the street from the house where we lived in Pennsylvania. My grandparents lived in the other half of the duplex next door. I was under three when this happened and I'm sure my Nana was glad to have me out from under her feet since my grandparents were raising me while my mother worked and my father was a soldier during WWII. (My mother worked in Philadelphia and only saw me on the weekends when she came home.)

I can remember the light thru the trees and the smell and sound of walking on decaying leaves and twigs. PopPop knew the mushrooms well and I wish that talent had been passed down to me. Alas, he died when I was 3 yrs old and that is also the first time my heart was broken. There is a certain autumnal light that can surprise me with this memory on occasion.

Some people have asked about the postcard/journal swaps, and they come from Swap-Bot where you can find enough swaps to keep you busy till the cows come home. The journal was my 'biggest' project but in the end I found it tiresome. Check out the pics on Flickr with swap-bot as a tag to see what others have swapped.

The layout for the postcards came from a WebChallenge at the wonderful Designer Digitals . I certainly don't get to even a fraction of the challenges, but I find them good ways to have a base to test out some Photoshop Elements techniques without having to come up with an idea of my own. I need skills training and practice at this point. DD comes up with the idea and I work on my ability to manipulate the digital graphic. btw, I don't scrapbook but find that the inspiration can be used in other ways.

On My Desk...July 2

Woo hoo....the best thing on my desk right now is a connection to the net. It took over half a day for the man to get us all rewired, hooked up, connected, whatever...but we are back on line, wireless, and with cable again.



So here I am writing on line again, with a load of rubbish left from cleaning, and cleaning and cleaning stuff while I had no connection. I must say I got a lot out, but there's still a bunch to file away. It's always hard for me to determine where some things that have never had a place in this room. (I'm still unearthing things from pre-renovation.)

But this was on my desk last week, and awaits the names for an 080808 postcard swap. I enjoyed using a free download template from Creative Memories on line. I'm never quite sure of what I'm doing but I'm having fun! The journal swap will go to the postoffice as soon as I watch a MI-5 episode that has to go back to the library today.
