Five on Friday: April 28, 2017

Well it's been quite a while since I did a fiver. But right now I've had a good couple of weeks and am totally grateful for that. I can look beyond the utter clutter that fills my upstairs as I keep trying to sort out the fallout from adding another double bed. In time, in time...

1. The rain has finally ended! I think the rain doesn't bother me but as we've had the a/c on already this spring, to have chilly rainy days is upsetting. I had to turn the heat on once in a while during the day and my computer gloves have been used. I'm going to keep them on the desk...just in case.

2. All that overcast rain did lead to great great sleeping weather. Sadly I realize I can't sleep beyond 06:30 much anymore. Plus if I sleep in the studio bed I have the computer set to come on at that time. Actually, it's a good time to get up!

3. In Googling my old 1976 Leeds United-W.B. Albion 'programme' on eBay, I found a program from the 1974 Liverpool-Leeds game. The game that Steve Heighway scored the winning goal and the game where I won the pool. It is also where I got my Liverpool scarf that god willing my grandson still has. My programme wasn't listed and the other comparable ones were selling for $1. That Liverpool-Leeds one was going for £16. I guess I'll keep mine and let my descendants sort it out.

4. One serious downside to that week of rain was that the beautiful cherry blossoms got so soaked. It's often what happens. Gorgeous days of blossoms and then Bam! the rains come and it's a soggy mess. I did sweep away loads of them yesterday which is not easy once they're wet and clumpy. Another year, another mess.

5. Today I'm finally taking myself up to Costco. It's a 20mile drive and I didn't need a lot so I've procrastinated on it. I can also get gas i.e. diesel fuel on my way at a station that has a diesel pump at EVERY island! I love love love that whereas so many stations only have 1 diesel pump and it's a nightmare navigating to snag that pump AND have the correct side of the car next to the pump. Now I just have to make sure to have a list so my round trip isn't wasted.

Have a great weekend and see you on Monday! Ciao!

Travel With Me Tuesday: York Minster

For outside of the Minster, we passed this garden. So enticing to me. Imagining what it would be like to live outside this magnificent cathedral.

The vast soaring arches above us at every spot. What would it be like to sit under these any time one wanted?

Oh the windows! Even on this dark dreary day, the light could shine through. These were windows that really ask for time to look often and look intently.

Our guide pointed out many things to Dick because he had never been here. How blessed I am to have had so many many visits. But really they are never enough. I could visit the Minster every day of my life. Maybe in another life time...

AAM Monday Project Life Week 13

The last of the wedding images I think but then you never know. And check out those eggs! Don't you wish they were at your house! Just a quick word today...rain, and then it's been more rain and I expect to have rain every day this week. Fortunately I don't have to go anywhere. So inside, with the heat on (seriously!) and books to read and tv to watch.

TBT: 1967 The Dog and US

Despite the Dec 1967 tag on the photo, I know this one was taken earlier. We have summer warmish weather clothes on so I'm guessing it's October right after I flew from Texas home to MD. You have to know that when we were using film in those days, we waited until the roll was finished to have it developed and printed. No instant gratification in those pre-digital times.

But here we are with our newborn son and my faithful dog and perhaps she's wondering if she was being displaced. Her name was Mayda as her mother was a beagle who at some time 'made a mistake' in mating with an obviously hairy dog. She slept with me in my high school and college years and then really bonded to my mother when I got married. Ah Mayda...you have it right. You're no longer #1 in my life! This little boy has taken your place!

Wordy Wednesday: You Should Make This

Now I don't know if I'm up to this or really plan to do it but... when I saw this blogpost I thought it was the cleverest thing around. Especially if you have little girls! Now if you have a little boy and think he'd like it, I have no problems with that. Fun is fun!

In fact, I think this would be fun for an adult too! like me...LOL I'd say Holly is one clever woman!

AAM Monday: Project Life Week 12

The week The Wedding started. Some house things as the cold held on but knowing that the warm days were coming. Also coming were my son and his fiancee Stephanie. The weekend at the end of this week would be what we had been waiting for! Lots of pictures this week!

TBT: Dolls Don't Appeal to Everyone circa 1945

Recently, I found this photo of me and my cousin Joe. I'd say we are about 4-5 years old here. We are - obviously- in my bedroom with all my dolls, stuffed animals, and other toys on the decorated bookcase. Now there is no doubt that I was a little ham even then but apparently Joe did not want to have evidence of his doll-playing days. I have to laugh as he is a man with a 'harem' - one wife and three daughters and some granddaughters also!

I find the details of the photo fascinating - the little doll table and chairs, the usual scrapes on my legs showing I played hard, the old wooden blinds with tape that was often replaced, the Art Deco turnings on the wood of...my bed? So much to see in old photos that give a feeling for the time.

Also looking in detail on the shoes I'm wearing I suspect they are a pair of my mother's or grandmother's. And, I'll bet that the socks are red because I have my heart pinafore on.  Maybe, maybe not.

AAM Monday: Project Life Week 11

A lot of bits and pieces this week. Hopefully, the last snow and ice. It didn't last long but it did make walking round the house rather dicey. I needed that TJ chocolate this week. Getting close to the wedding, I worried about the smallest things AND the big things like the rehearsal dinner.

When one snowstorm was predicted, I went to TJ's and got myself a spring roll for lunch. %$&*^ but when I got it home, it was off. Darn darn darn...but again, just a minor glitch in life.

Travel With Me Tuesday: Across to Rock Hall

Now onto the wedding rehearsal photos. Remember the bride and groom had made all these plans for a MD wedding when they were living in SoCAL. Then in February, his Fairmont Hotel was sold to Marriott. 60 days to get new jobs somewhere in the country and do all the final, move AND do all the bits and pieces of the wedding. It's amazing how much they did and are now both living and working at jobs in downtown Boston. Kudos kiddos!

The groomsman Kurt and his wife Jenn from Seattle meet Dick in the sitting room of the Inn. It was a long trip for them so shortly after this they rested after their flight.

Jim the co-owner of the Inn but, for a change, with no dogs about.

We all went outside with Mary the officiant to rehearse. It was a gorgeous day, the kind we hoped to have for the actual wedding.

One of the dogs had an 'issue' and dragged his rear across the ground for quite a while. This was a heads up to look where we walked and hope there was someone with a pooper-scooper for the day of the wedding.

Matron of Honor Lindsey is 7 months pregnant in these shots and daddy John is minding little Declan.  Merida the flower girl is listening carefully while Derek the Best Man wonders how his 5 month old son is holding up back in the Inn.

Somewhere in the background the father of the groom is not sure where he is to be. We know it will all work out.

Mary gives Stephanie the instructions on passing the bouquet back to Lindsey. With Drama! Fortunately, the dog has completed his 'business'.

The bride and groom are told to practice a long kiss. One hundred one, one hundred two, one hundred three.

And so the rehearsal went well, the kisses were kissed, and we went off for the rehearsal dinner.

Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner

Ok, no chicken dinner but better than that, a chance to win a super kit collection  from Sabrina's Creations at The Lilypad. Looks like a 'perfect for spring' set of colors and elements in this sneak preview!

Click HERE for all the details. Winner will be announced Friday so don't delay.

AAM Monday: Project Life Week 10

The past few weeks have been a bit of a blur with my son's wedding. Week 10 was before it all but there were things at home that had to be done. Isn't it always times like that when the computer has a fit??
