AAM Monday: Back to Project Life Week 33

For whatever reason, the pages for this week gave me grief (and that was before adding the background paper which can be eyeball popping). Lots of mistakes, losing the whole first layout and then, of course, finding it after I took the time the next day to recreate it.... I don't often have this kind of fuckup but there it was.  Let's just say that wasn't the end of it and should you find a glaring mistake, let me know. I hope to get the printing caught up in early September.

But moving on, here are the pages for Week 33. Taking a week staycation got a lot done re decluttering but it did not get a lot done re scrapping. Oh choices.

Five on Friday: August 26, 2016

1. Getting ready to say goodbye to August. It's not my favorite month because of the heat and humidity but there are a bunch of good birthdays. My friend Anna was August 11, my Nana was August 13,  my son is August 26 and he shares that date with my granddaughter, his niece. Maybe all the candles (if they were all alive) is causing the heat!

2. When my fisherman came back from Alaska he stopped at the Midway (Chicago) airport and bought snacks for me. I'd heard of this place and thought of going on one of our Chicago trips but it was a cold, cold time and a bit to far from our hotel.  Yes, it's all gone.  A combo of cheese popcorn and candied. Very very good combo.

3. I am waiting for my molar crown to be replaced and with the temporary, I'm being very careful about chewing on that side so most of those candied kernels just got a bit of savoring before they hit the trashcan.

4. A friend of mine had yellow polish on her toes last week. That was what I wanted not this. I'll have to ask her what color it was not that I plan to have yellow again. Oh the scheme of life it's not critical is it?

5. I have been waiting for it to get cooler for some semi-local trips. Alas, it seems that our 90°+ weather is lingering longer than I'd like. I had postponed a trip I'd hoped to make today til next week praying for cooler, but at least there should be less traffic. Take blessings as they come!

Have a great weekend and I'll see you back here on Monday!

TBT: School Day 1950s

Back with another photo of me and my friend Mary Ellen. While it's not back to school time,  it is a school morning and my mother is coming out of the apartment door while my father takes a photo. Believe it or not my socks were green to uniform jumper? but more likely my Girl Scout sweater.

Mary Ellen and I walked to school so I don't know what was going on that both of my parents were not at work. That's a mystery I may never know as well as why did my father have his? camera then. Perhaps this was a photo for a Girl Scout badge as I did developing then for that badge. Whatever. It's two 9 year old girls squinting and giggling on a typical day before school. And I'm glad to have that memory.

Travel With Me Tuesday: Hello Budapest!

The winter light upon arrival in Budapest was exquisite. Our ship took it's time meandering down the Danube to our dock in the city. As the Danube bisects Buda from Pest, the docks are central to most of the city. We would be getting off the ship for an extension and the other passengers would be leaving to fly home. But this night would be a 'pack your bags' for everyone.

AAM Monday: My Week at Home

Well the staycation is over. My husband is back from Alaska with a reasonable amount of halibut. As for me, I got a bunch of things cleaned out, taken away and can now just continue the process. Does it ever end? I also read a lot of books and watched a lot of movies.  I should have written the movies down as some were kind of duds that I watched for a bit and then gave up on them.  I like to watch an hour or 90 minutes of tv in the evening when my eyes need a break from computer work and/or reading.

yes, I had my melon and prosciutto

If I plan to watch a movie I'm pretty sure I'll like then I have to start a bit earlier than my usual 8:30. Once again, I have learned that a trailer is not the best predictor of a movie. One I put off watching for a couple weeks,  as it seemed a 'May December' kind of romance from some blurbs I saw, turned out to be a fairly good story. "The Intern". Funnily enough, I swear that factory now office layout was in another movie I've seen recently!

All in all it was a good week for me. It's always nice to have time totally alone and no set-in-stone plans for 7 days. Trust me, I never feel lonely or bored!

Time for a Staycation

While I have some daily life things that are less than fun to do, this week is a staycation for me. Himself asked me what I was going to do...and actually, I have no serious plans. It may just be serious lollygogging time. Lots of iced tea and iced coffee drinking. Eating watermelon, cantaloupe and peaches. Maybe throw in some prosciutto with those,  or maybe a lot. We'll see.

But wouldn't it be nice to see these at night? Check out @mikkolagerstedt on Instagram. She taught me the new word "astrophotography" though I suspect my friend @photocat24 has used it also. But it's cooler (cold?) in Finland than the American SW.

See you all in a week!

Five on Friday: August 12, 2016

Well August is moving on and if I can just get through the rest of the month, I'll be ok. I think.

found here

1. I found the above sentiment almost frightening though I do understand what the author meant. Now if it said, eternal autumn, I'd do my damnedest to always be grateful!

2. The kitchen has barely been disturbed lately. It's amazing how long one can live on iced tea and iced coffee. Fortunately, the grocery stores have wonderful prepared foods and salad makings. I've even made it to Whole Foods considering it was only me eating here last week. I'm splurging.

3. Another on line find for me this week. The person suggesting this used it to pin a monthly calendar on the wall near her computer. Clever her and clever those Scotch 3M people.

4. Another chore for me that I wish I had done earlier when the cellar wasn't damp and maybe full of potential mold from all the rain - empty the freezer for the fish I hope he catches in Alaska. We ended up needing two chest freezers when he was catching lots of halibut and salmon and we were going to Hatch NM every other year or so for chiles. At least the chiles can be bought here now. All this presumes I don't put many tomatoes in the freezer.  Canning certainly works but damn it's  hot in August! And if no salmon, I may just empty the one freezer til we need the 2nd one again. It's a thought.

5. My trunk is full of things for donation but you know what? I can barely see the difference in the house. How is that possible? There is so much more that could/should/will go. I hope I live long enough to finish this clean out!

Have a good weekend, stay cool or stay warm if you're on the south side of the planet and make sure to do something fun! CYA on Monday!

TBT: Back When I Was Almost 10

Recently, I've been looking at the map of the area where I spent part of my childhood. I often think about all the freedom we had as children back then. Three full months of summer days spent roaming here and there with only periodic trips back home to eat or to get popsicle money when the Good Humor man and his ice cream truck came round. It was pretty much outside all day until dinner time.

This day was an unusual occurrence. Despite living in a small 2 bedroom apartment and no, no air-conditioning at that time, we did have a large park across the main road. Pretty much it was an area where some trees had been cleared for a ball field and down at the end of the park was a branch of the Anacostia River which flowed westward into Washington DC, periodically flooding before it arrived in the city. Fletchers' Field had picnic benches, pavilions and public toilets which was a big deal in the newly emerging suburbs of Prince George's County MD.

I don't know what the event was here but I don't recall many more like this. My friend Mary Ellen is in the center with a dark shirt and I am to her right drinking a soda from a glass bottle. The two girls behind us were friends but not close friends. I love seeing the mothers sitting at the big picnic table in the rear of the shot, all in cotton dresses mostly hand made I imagine. I wonder if my mother was because she worked full time in Washington DC.  Did she take a day off work for this? Without men in the photo I think it must be a weekday.  But this was life... back  in the 50s just before I turned 10 in September.

AAM Monday: Project Life Week 31

I just finished these pages last week and am really enjoying making them pretty bold - meaning pretty bold for me!  It's been a goal of mine to do something different this year and I'm really feeling content with this. Now I may need to do a tweak or two before this one goes to print but that's normal!  haha

One thing that is really pleasing me and is so so much fun is using Mommyish's Template Maker to make my own PL templates. I think one of these days I'm going to modify the 20+ ones I've made to add stitching or even black fine lines. Wanting to do and doing may have a bit of a time gap in between but that's ok.

I'm still not a 'color outside the lines' kinda girl in fact a friend had her work cut out for her when she had me in a journaling class. I really balked at journaling on paper without lines. It's still not my fave but I can easily live with that.

I hope you enjoy looking at these pages half as much as I enjoy making them!

Travel With Me Tuesday: Farewell to Vienna

Somehow I didn't get as much done or seen as I'd have liked in Vienna but I think that was due to these days being at the end of two weeks rather than at the beginning. I find that about 10 days is enough for me for a vacation and then I tend to want it over. I miss my home and bed and less scheduled days. I believe he feels otherwise. It's a marriage compromise.

AAM Monday PL Week 30

Somehow I've become busy with a bit of people coming and going round here. Plus it's been HOT. When that happens, I'm not much good for anyone much less myself. I feel like I accomplished this just to get it done.  I am so ready for autumn just like most/many people await summer.  I know the weather may not change the way I hope it will by September 21 but these sure are the days I'd be just as happy with the covers over my head in a really cold air conditioned room.

But at least there's watermelon!
