Sunday brunch in Honolulu. We are a few of the non-Japanese in the restaurant. So very very Honolulu experience. English is almost the 2nd language there. Fun experience, and I certainly left very very full.

Tuesday Tutorial: Yes, Actions and Styles Again
Even though this tricky little subject was covered last month, it's always good to have another teacher's perspective on the subject. The method that is clear to one person may not be clear to another. This is why it's always great to have more than one explanation on the same thing. You may have been shaking your head with the way the Texas Chicks explained the process, and if so here's Linda Sattgast, aka as Digital Scrapper telling you how she sees it.
No video, just a link which will take you to a page that looks just like this one. I hope this helps you installing those fun but pesky actions and styles to your program. Oh, and Adobe, why do you make this so complicated for us????

Hawaii Encore
Slowly the scrapbook pages about Hawaii are getting done. At least it's not like the first trip when we did so much each day. This trip was very rainy, and my energy was already down down down. I didn't feel like doing a lot, except chill out. Some trips need to be like that.
First there was the going, which in itself even from LA takes a lot of to-ing and fro-ing. That is the hardest part of long trips for me but what's a girl to do about it...
There are a lot of the photos from the first, and sunny days in Kauai, that are being done in Project Life style. That is 4x6 photos and other stuff in page protectors. That is actually taking longer than pure digital and I'll have to think about photographing them once they're done. sigh.
This day was a day that reminded me of monsoon season in Thailand. Rain, rain, rain and the land was already soaked from the major thunderstorm that happened the day before we arrived.
I'm not sure how I'm going to do the rest of the Kauai week but we'll see. Keep an eye out for them and thanks for looking!

Sunday Serenade - No Drugs Needed
I heard this one on the NPR SWXW Preview show, and I can't believe it but it's actually growing on me. Actually, that could just be a fungus...

Flashback Friday: Memories Lead to Action
While my dear husband thinks of memories like this
or like this second one, more likely, he sighs, and talks about it as if it were yesterday.
He gets that dreamy look on his face, and I know he is back in Italy again. After a few of these occasions, I say...Well, then do something about it! and he has. He got to work and laid the groundwork for another trip to Italy. No complaints from me!

Technique Tuesday: Making Word Art Even Prettier
Now some word art is very fancy on its own, but some word art is very simple, very graphic. I like the graphic a lot but some days you just want to tart it up a bit, don't you. Are we ever satisfied with things or do we always look for new ways to tweak things... I think you know that both answers are yes for me and I suspect both answers are true for you also.
Here's a video from Designer Digitals which takes some of Ali Edwards' great word art and adds patterned paper or a color to it. You can also do this with some of the various fonts out there that are similar to what Ali draws herself. Have a go with it and have fun!

AAM - or The Week That Was
I greatly enjoyed doing 365 last year and did manage to get all my weeks done In The Same Year! I have some weeks from this year that aren't done but those are the weeks of trips early in the year when the scrapping time later was totally lost. Things are as they are so they will get done, in time. But I decided I wanted to try some more iPhone apps and really like the pictures I get from Notica.
I didn't notice that the dates didn't match at the top and the bottom of the photo cards but I ignored that and just used them as square photos. The notes did help me to get a bit of annotation on each photo so it all worked out in the end. I'll have to do some more practice with this and see what gives.
Are you doing 365(6) or Project Life this year? How's it going for you now? Some times simplify is what's needed to get back into the swing.

Sunday Serenade - Meditation Music
Well, it's an overcast Sunday, a bit cool again after our warmer that normal March days and I'm in a quiet but productive kind of mood. I have a few projects to work on and so I wanted some different non verbal background music. This might just fit the bill for me and I hope it works for you!
Happy Sunday!

Oh I wish...
I wish I could be back at this Farmers' Market again. I forget the exact address of this Farmers' Market in LA but it is obviously not the Santa Monica Farmers' Market. As I recall, it was an Organic Market and omg it was full of gorgeous food and not that very expensive. Oh to have access to CA food all the time...

Love my faux Polaroid
I got the Instant app recently but didn't have time to play with it. Now that I'm home I've done a few shots and really like it , esp for the Project Life version I'm doing. This was my first one and I expect that you'll see a few more like it as the days go by. It's not a new app but I do love it. InstantMacApp.com

Delicious Sleep with a John Lennon Soundtrack
Once we arrived home from LA Saturday after flying in from Honolulu before that on Friday, we went right to bed. Zonk! Of course the Ambien did help as it's supposed to. I really slept well until 7 am and then decided that it was going to be the day I finally got to sleep in ...REALLY sleep in! I got up out of bed at either noon or 1pm. I'm not quite sure since the Daylight Savings kicked in also. But I had five luxurious hours of dozing on and off. Pure bliss.
Last night however, we both had trouble falling asleep and I went into the studio to read for a while. After hiding the blue lights on the two computer EHDs, I fell asleep and woke up at my normal 7am from a wonderful dream where John Lennon was playing this song on the piano for me. What a great start to the day!

Two Ducks in the Rain
Ok, so I'm the only one in Ducky gear but you get the point. The rain came and the rain went and the rain came and the rain went...repeat all day. This was one of the rain moments.
Honolulu Festival 2012
This was one of the last floats in the Honolulu Festival parade. It was Sunday night and this was just a bit of an appetizer for the fireworks show later that evening.

The Day that the Rains Came Down
We had booked a tour of the taro fields in the Hanalei Valley and a lunch there earlier in the week. We had arrived in Kauai a day after a very serious thunder and lightening storm which included flash floods. We figured that by midweek the weather might be back to sunny and dry. Well each day had sun and each day had rain but nothing like the storm that hit earlier in the week.
But the day of our taro tour...it poured and it poured and then it poured harder. But our hardy guide Lyndsey forged on and gave us a wonderful morning. A wet morning but a true taste of the farmers' life.
We arrive and wonder if our trip is going to be cancelled as the rain comes down and each couple eyes the sky and wonders what will come next. What's next? the tour which goes on despite the weather.
Lyndsey, our guide, squats next to the taro fields sorting photos that are covered in plastic and taro plants for us to examine. Does this remind you of Vietnam? It could, because these taro fields have stood in for the rice fields of Vietnam in several films.
On the drive home, the road is flooded here and there and we hope to get back to Lihue before a road is closed. But we do stop and take a quick look at this beautiful view of the lush fields taking in the needed rain. Hawaii in the winter. A remarkable season.
More information on this family and the tours can be found here.
