AAM Scrapping Style

For the first 4 or so years of scrapping, I would have called myself a 'clean and simple' scrapper. It's what I liked and what I now realize, I was capable of doing. I didn't like the flowers and ribbons and other 'doo-dads' of a lot of scrappers but I think this goes back to the fact that I was never a paper scrapper. I liked the clean journalism style, withe good design, that I saw from Ali Edwards in my earliest days. I truly learned to scrap with Ali's earliest templates. was laid out for me, and I all had to do was add my photos and some paper. Let me tell you THAT was hard enough for me! I 'got' layers from the git go but getting my photos to the page and then resizing them??? Oh it was agony!

This was my style and yes, food was and still is a major part of my subject matter.  But bit by bit, I saw things I wanted to try. I was never big on embellishments but with a template, I could play with that look.

Most recently I have finally been able to jump in the artsy pool. It's as far from my natural style as can be but with some guidance from Anna Aspnes, and a blending class by Jana Morton,  I think I feel more comfortable with this kind of page now.  It's fun! So finally my more current pages.

Do you find that your scrapping style has changed, evolved over time? if so, in what direction have you moved? I'd love to hear about your evolution.

Sunday Serenade - Autumn in New York

Still thinking about this city, probably because I've been scrapping the photos. So while my body is in Maryland, my mind wanders back to Manhattan.

Tuesday Tutorial - Replacing Part of an Image in PSE

This video comes from Rick at essential-photoshop-elements.  He has a great selection of PSE videos on YouTube so check Rick and his site out! We PSE users can really benefit from seeing something like this done rather than just read about it. Ok, I speak for myself! Seeing is learning for me!

Sunday Serenade New Orleans Memory

There was a Blues Festival in Layfayette Park in New Orleans while we were there. Great weather, great music but sadly we didn't have chairs and these old bones don't stand as long as they used to.

We heard Kenny Wayne Shephard being interviewed and his band was the headliner the first night.  Great performers across the board. When Noah Hunt flashed those teeth I thought I was seeing Dave Grohl! Enjoy!

Whatcha Think of the New Look?

After installing a new operating system, and getting a good haircut, I just thought I might do a blog cleanup. Cleaning up the blog is more enjoyable than cleaning up the studio or house! Any thoughts on the new look? Easier to read? I do want to get rid of all the blue at some time but that's another job. I have so forgotten most of the html I once knew. Another project for another day!

I'd love to hear what you think!

Computer Time Again

As soon as we got home from New Orleans, there were two main things to do. Laundry - but of course! and the installation of Lion on my iMac. Laundry is inevitable when two people empty their suitcases. That's no surprise.

But the Lion install had a bit of a hiccup. I didn't have a working App store app. Could I just go to the Apple site and download it? Not exactly because the damaged one could not be deleted. Ask Apple why, don't ask me. *I couldn't get a new copy of the App because my computer already had one...albeit damaged. So...the answer was reinstall Snow Leopard. Yes, this sure was a case of two steps backward to get one step forward. Snow Leopard did it's thing. tick tick tick of the time to reinistall...ok Snow Leopard reinstalled with the App store app.

Now that I had the App store app again, I got me my copy of Lion. The Lion install crashed. Back to verify the disk and verify my permissions. Ahhhh....Lion was installing. tick tic tick of the time to install. But finally we have a roar!

So is all good on the computer front? Yes and no. My wireless mouse seems to either not like Lion or has given up the ghost. My old wired mouse does not scroll in both directions. That's why it was relegated to the drawer of emergency items. My dh thinks I should get the Apple trackpad. Naw....Mama likes her mouse! Rosanna Dandanna was right. "It's always something."

*I do admit to being the one who originally damaged that app. When it was first installed ...last year? I tried to delete it. Don't ask me why. I wish I had a good answer but I don't. I think ...think...I thought I'd never need it. Whoa, was I wrong there!

Get It Blended

No, not  recipe but a digital class I'm taking. Blending photos into the background. I thought I had an idea on this but oh our teacher Jana Morton shows me I'm just a slouch in the blending world. She does a zillion steps to get that subtle look. Me? I'm not so patient but perhaps this class will make me see that it's worth it. Watching the video while trying to download the video and scrapping at the same time? Not a good idea. I crashed my iMac twice.  Patience, Maureen, patience! I finally stopped everything and just downloaded the video on my Macbook so it could play as a stand alone item while I scrapped on the iMac.

Today it all worked so much better and I bagged my appointment with the Mac genii. Yes, I did get a page done out of that. Not the best selection of photos but it's what I started with so there I am. Here's to blending!

Tuesday Tutorial - Adding an AngelGlow

This tutorial comes from Patti Brown over at Kaleidoscope  She has been generous enough to share her tutorial on adding angel glows to photographs, and yes this one is for us PSE users! Yeah Patti! If you watch all the way through, she'll also show you how to add an artistic layer to the glowing picture.    Just click the link below the photo, and...thank Patti.

AAM Monday

Yep, Monday is All About Me. Well, really it is all about me, isn't it! Most of us, despite what we may say, are still the center of our own universe.

But seriously, I've just caught up with a few of my 365 layouts. I haven't minded doing this at all this year and now have a big fat red D-ring binder just full of memories of the year so far. I think I will do this again next year but maybe, just maybe, I will print the book rather than print each week and put it into a binder. I'm not sure. I certainly do like the immediacy of seeing a chunk of layouts each quarter but those D-rings are darn fat! and a serious pita to store. (I think each home probably needs an Ikea Expedit just for scrappers!) Paying for a 52+ page at the end of the year seems daunting too but really I think it's probably cheaper.  I need to look into that....sigh.

Week 37 was subtle; I felt in a tan almost fall mode.

Then I decided to go seriously colorful with Week 38. Yes, just a wild and crazy woman.

Now it's time to move on, change the template and get into a fall mode of colors. That's what has kept me going through this project - periodic changes of templates. It is hard to balance the portrait and landscape of iPhone photos. Sometimes, it is just easier to make them all square. I'm not sure what's coming next, but you'll see.  Right here folks, the story evolves!

Sunday Serenade - NYC memory

Not sure when this video was made and while the quality of the image isn't great, it sure captures a lot of great energy from two fantastic singers. Nor did I know that this song was written for Liza Minelli. I can sure believe it though!

Flashback Friday

Lucky lucky me just won this calendar set over at Oscraps. Thank you Merkee for the gift!

Now, you may ask why this is FlashBACK Friday and not FlashFORWARD Friday with a 2012 calendar. Good question. The reason is that someone is going to get a calendar for Christmas with all photos of our late beloved cat Sebastian.

I have to flashback to his happy days. Ok, relatively happy days. He was a Siamese and they do tend to be pretty fussy. He made his preferences known, and I was not on that list. Ironically, he entered our lives as MY cat but from the git-go he was dh's cat.  Not that dh was interested in being owned by this boy but Sebastian made it clear. He did not want my lap, he wanted dh's lap. I was relegated to litter box cleaner and periodic medicine giver.  But give me the time of day??? Hardly. When I would go to pet him as he sat up on his window tree perch, he would let out a 'Ehhh' of disapproval, and turn his head away from me.

Nonetheless, I loved him dearly and was the one to help him go over the rainbow bridge. Well, Sebastian, you are going to be immortalized just a bit more. Enjoy!

Wednesday Scrapping

I had a bunch of writing to do this morning for some organization minutes and a newsletter. The reward was an afternoon of scrapping! Somehow it wasn't as much time as I thought it would be so just one page. But one I like! That is important isn't it, cause when we make something and then think...I really don't like that it's not so much fun.

As the painterly images are going round the galleries, I was glad to get this one done with just the filter on PSE. I know there are other ways but ez is one of my favorite ways! This is Rome in 2009. Ah bella Roma!

Happy Middle of the Week everyone!

Tuesday Tutorial - Digital Painting Tutorial

Well this tutorial isn't a video but I think it's just about as good as most any video I've seen.

Frani certainly has walked through the steps with text and images to make this one as clear as can be. She also is great about sourcing the products she used in making her page. Frani makes her happy home over at Oscraps and is a wonderful source of inspiration and information. Try it out! You'll then be able to get that wonderful glow on your images!

Here is the Digital Painting Tutorial.

This was for a scraplift today at Designer Digitals. It's an old photo taken when we were in Chicago in 2006. It still makes me laugh!
