Cyber Monday?

As much fun as it is to shop on line, at any hour, and in jammies or barefoot is not Cyber Monday for me.

It's Color Your Hair Monday! I got up early and out to the post office to return my Netflix so I don't start jonesin' about the next Mad Men disc. After that swing round, a quick dash into RiteAid with two coupons and so for $4.44 my roots are gone. Yeah!

But shopping? I think there will only be this today. Free shipping too!

How bout you? any good buys online that I should know about?

Dishing The Week 11-29-09

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW the pink light of dawn glows in the sky.

I AM HEARING the gurgle gurgle gurgle of Sebastian's tummy.

I AM WEARING my pajamas. Who would be dressed so early?

I AM THINKING that as nice as it is to go to friends for Thanksgiving, I surprised myself by missing leftovers.

I AM THANKFUL FOR the health and safety of all our children.

I AM CREATING file transfers between computers. Figuring out how to do it was the creative part - sort of. Right??

I AM GOING to start the actual pages of the Alaska Album today. Photos selected, digital selected, now to drop and decorate.

I AM READING a book about Wyoming at bedtime. The Meadow by James Galvin. Nice vignettes about the state, much lighter than Annie Proulx.

I AM HOPING that I can find another box or 2 to take to the Lutheran Mission this week. Then head to the books for clear out.

FROM THE KITCHEN I think it will be a pot roast today. Maybe shortbread too.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS is hot tea ready for me when I get up.

A FEW PLANS FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK. See if those friend lunches are possible this week and check CHOW for Boston restaurants, tho there are always our old favorites.

Flashback Friday

This is my father at The General Tire Company lot at 23rd & M Streets N.W. Washington DC. The back of the photo says 1963 and I will guess say it it autumn or spring by my father's shirt and the lack of leaves on the trees.

The strange thing is that my current husband also worked at 23rd and M while a co-op student in college tho not for this tire company. I always find it amazing that people who are have significance in our life have often intersected our life at other times. My current husband could easily have been across the street while I was on my occasion visit to my father's job while on my way to shopping in Georgetown. But it would take a first marriage for each of us and many many years down the road till our paths finally crossed with meaning.

The extra Thanksgiving

Marriages come and marriages go, people enter our lives, and then leave our lives but for the time we share I am grateful.

2002, the year of the extra Thanksgiving dinner that Sharlah made for us after our first in Mesilla NM.

Tuesday Tuesday

Monday gets the Mamas and Papas singing Monday, Monday but what song is there for Tuesday? I don't want to take the time to do some serious googling today so I'll wait for someone to chime in with a Tuesday song.

Me? I am saying no to procrastination, and working my way through the photos from Alaska for an album. Because it wasn't my ...I'll die if I don't see Alaska!! ...trip, I can be a bit more ruthless in the cut. Fortunately only dh had a digital camera on that trip and while I'm culling the pictures, I still will have photo based layouts. I am almost a full week behind on Anna Aspnes class Album Magic. It HAS been helpful to me in seeing steps I haven't taken when thinking about an album. Here's one that didn't make at Mendenhall Glacier looking as if I feared it was coming to get me.

DH likes centering...and he thinks the rule of thirds is one of my odd ideas. Oh well, he gets shots of me, tho not as many as when we were first married 8 years ago! Now I do have to remind him to snap me. It all comes out in the wash. Ok, back to sorting. Then once I have my iMac back I can get to work on the papers and templates.

Footnote: Thanks to CameoRoze for this answer.

Dishing the Week November 22, 2009

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW the autumn light is flickering. It's a wonderful late fall day.

I AM HEARING the bubbling of the pork ribs as they simmer for Lithuanian Cabbage Soup.

I AM WEARING khakis and a Chico shirt. Maybe we'll go out today, maybe not.

I AM THINKING that I would like to find something else to do as a volunteer.

I AM THANKFUL FOR this new Macbook. It's just perfect for me.

I AM CREATING a very simple holiday season plan. No tree this year which will make Dick happy. (well just a tabletop tree…)

I AM GOING to start on the middle room this week. One or two big piles, and the tall cabinet may be able to go in there.

I AM READING very little right now. I feel pulled to do more and read less right now and I trust my gut.

I AM HOPING that my iMac comes back today or tomorrow. But if not, then I will catch up on the digital classes when I do get it.

FROM THE KITCHEN there is the scent of the soup, and later there will be meatballs roasting. We had stuffed pork chops last night so it's been a piggy kind of weekend.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS is the silence in the house and around the house. I always marvel at that as we are so close to a main street. Bless the muffling bamboo.

A FEW PLANS FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK send the T-day cards today, make the asparagus for our Thanksgiving with friends, and take my dear friend Judy to the physical therapist. Ok, clean out the car too! Try not to complain all week for really, what do I have to complain about in the big picture, or even the small one.

How Time Flies

Who knew I would miss my own anniversary again? Not my wedding one or any other significant one but my blog anniversary.

November 11 2007 Cooking My Life was born. What fun it's been. I recall wondering if I'd ever get to 100 posts, and I've passed 500 now. That says that I have posted 2/3 of the time, and I'm not counting posts on my other blog. I guess I'm wordy - enough.

Happy Blogging!

What about that word

No, no, not one of the bad words that now we say with only a letter. The N word, the L word, the F word. No, the word I'm thinking about is a good word. It's my word.

This goes back to this post . I had wondered what my word was as I had totally forgotten it. Maybe, I considered, I had internalized the word. Maybe I just forgot. But in any case, the wooden word just reappeared as I continue to clean out papers and so many unnecessary items round here. It's now hanging right behind me. I just have to change my perspective to

Old Houses Are NEVER Finished

While the man is away it's always a good time to get another project done. This is best as there's no one going up and down the stairs all day, and eating, and getting coffee and bathroom trips and various other meanderings. It doesn't interfere with MY day to day life, mostly. But if you want something to get done, and you need to shove things all about, it's best done when himself is not home.

He's never bothered about the cost, but he is bothered by the bother. He always says but ...There'll be so much moving to do! ha. I got it all done this morning. If there's one thing I'm good about it's shifting things. I like it too! It gives me a chance to see things in a new light. Right now I'm seeing an empty hallway - pre painting.

Then there is the really cracked section in the center of the house which became worse after the renovation. It's to be expected but it's going to disappear for a while at least.

Then there's the bathroom all full of stuff. Still perfectly usable unless you want to take a shower here!

Fortunately, the other member of the household is not bothered by the shifting of his facilities. I shoved him in to be sure he knew where it was. He's an old guy and tends to forget where and what a lot. I checked. He used it.

Let the painting begin!

Dishing the Week 11-15-09

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW which is open again! I can see the leaves still falling one by one. The red maple has finally burst into its deep dark red balanced by the green of the bamboo.

I AM HEARING the calming tick of the clock, cars and birds. The finches are back.

I AM WEARING my jammies. I may stay in them all day and not say one single word outloud.

I AM THINKING about a dream I had about a story of a boy and his garden written and illustrated by my friend Carol. The pages appeared to be grocery bags and it was all done with pencil sketches. Is that for 'me' to do rather than Carol???

I AM THANKFUL FOR all of it.

I AM CREATING my digital pages slowly now. The stories for Ali's class take time but thank God there are pre-designed layouts. Then there is Anna's class...I'm so glad I got Sharlah's tags done!

I AM GOING to find time to have lunch with friends this week.

I AM READING nothing special. None of the books from my stash seem to have much appeal. It's more movie time after a lot of computer time. That gives the eyes a break too.

I AM HOPING that I can get a good portion of the garden clean up done while Ann paints.

FROM THE KITCHEN shall come some food gifts. Cooking for others makes me happiest.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS is my time alone. Who'd a thunk it?

A FEW PLANS FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK. Color my hair, install SnowLeopard, work on the stacks of clutter in the studio, and continue emptying the middle room. Otherwise, go outside in the balmy air and finish weeding the driveway.

Live Video and more

No, no, no...wrong channel. Twas a live video chat last night with Cathy Zielske who chats about it here. The chat was courtesy of Renee Pearson and if you want a great 'How Will I Ever Get Comfortable with PSE" teacher, Renee and her IT backup Kent are the greatest. Check her classes, for it was there that I really cut my digi teeth. Now I mostly skip on the digital yellow brick road.

And no, I can't get Cathy her Amanda Hugginkiss cause she already has that wonder-man Dan. Would that I had a screenshot of that temperature raiser.

It certainly was a fun night, with ice clinking, and people crawling on the floor, and Nick and Nora Owls. This is why digi scrapping is so great, ya know? So how was YOUR Wednesday night???

Love the Mail

Ok, so a lotta days are just bits of junk, including the semi-junk as endless catalogs of vacations cruises, trips etc.fall through the mail slot. Once in a while there is one that gets my attention and subsequently our dollars as there's a trip we want to take. Usually though, I get these right into the recycling since I have a LOT of them already squirreled away for collage projects. I've tried to find a group on Freecycle who'd want them but no luck so far.

But there are other kinds of mail. There are Swap-bot postcards, there are magazines (oh the decadent feeling of a magazine for me!), and there are things ordered. Like external hard drives that are re-entering the mail world unfortunately. Enlargements ordered and waiting to go into the scrapbooks.

And then there are things won. There was a hint of this Sunday. Sometimes I just savor these, and try to find a special time to open them up. (I also then realize I haven't notified the sender that I've rec'd the item and feel terrible. Hanging head in shame...) Janet who blogs at Me and My Art picked me as the winner of an Art Journal. I have never been quite clear if a journal that is 'decorated' is the final creation or is to be used in writing afterward. Janet said I could do whatever I wanted. I know that ...but what do most Art Journalers think? Do you make it as a journal OF art, or is it an Art journal that is designed to be used for word journaling afterwards? Is there any consensus? Does it really matter a rat's ass???

So today I thought I would have the day to myself and unveil my gift. Alas, dh is home with a appointment at the doctor later today. Yes, yes, the best laid plans of mice and women often get waylaid. And yes, I 'should' be more sympathetic but I'm a rotten woman sometimes.

So come back tomorrow and see what's up! Wordless Wednesday will be a picture tale.

Dishing the Week 11-01-09

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW -it's sunny with light bouncing around my window panes.

I AM HEARING - general signs of life from Dick in his office.

I AM WEARING - khakis and a yellow cotton turtle neck. It's a day that's cooler inside than out.

I AM THINKING - that as good as it is to have Dick back home, it's easier to sleep w/o him! No snoring...even if it is pretty quiet these days.

I AM THANKFUL FOR - his safe return and Bekah's improved heath and for finally getting the spilled honey off the pantry shelf. Big deals and pesky deals.

I AM CREATING - order with my new digital supplies. Put them away properly labeled and I'm more relaxed creating with them. I also have a new Art Journal that I won! woohoo

I AM GOING - to the Apple store today with Dick. He deals with his sync issue and I look at Macbooks. I think I'll buy on line once I determine my specs.

I AM READING - the newspapers. I want to get them cleared out today for my bunny lady who takes them. I need a good book to read!

I AM HOPING - that the new 1T hard drive install will go smoothly.

FROM THE KITCHEN - we are having the posole and slices of the good dark breads from Cleveland.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS - is having Sebastian stay with me all day, except for his hundred zillion forays down to the kitchen for grazing. At least he can still manage the stairs.

A FEW PLANS FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK -Switch out ehds, making the 1T the new backup; test out dvd burning; keep up with my digital classes and lessons;remain grateful for all that is, as it is.

Flashback Friday

I remember those sneakers were red! We had gone blackberry picking, and I can see that brushing my hair that night would be one of those hairbrush nightmares. As much as I'd like to have it long, that's one of the reasons it's short now.

Video Week

One of the things I tend to do when I have the house to myself for a couple of days is to have a Video week. I'm not much on tv shows but I do like my movies. Now that I have my big tv, we hooked the old laptop up to it, and Netflix on demand and me are getting pretty close.

This week I saw The Color of Paradise, an Iranian film that has some breathtaking footage of northern Iran. I never had a chance to travel in Iran in my short time living there so this also gave me my first sight of the Caspian sea. Various Farsi words came back to me, and the shots of Tehran were nostalgic. Almost a fairytale movie.

I caught most of The Cure on HBO and again a movie I where I enjoyed the scenery a lot - from St. Cloud MN down the Mississippi. Adolescent boys always get me.

Finally, one I'd been waiting to watch from Netflix was another Edward Norton film. There is never enough Ed Norton for me. The boy certainly does dark well, and this is a Spike Lee NYC post 9/11 movie. 25th hour. The whole spectrum of the city in 24+hrs.

Pass the popcorn, I'm on a movie roll.

Dishing the Week 11-01-09

OUTSIDE MY WINDOW it's raining raining.

I AM HEARING the clock ticking.

I AM WEARING fleece, as the house seems colder than it is. It always seems colder to me when I’m alone.

I AM THINKING it would be nice to have been on the trip with Dick. I miss him.

I AM THANKFUL FOR the fact that I did stay home, mostly, kind of.

I AM CREATING piles of things to be picked up this week. Why does it take messes to make order?

I AM GOING no place special because home is darn special to me.

I AM READING a rather self abosored book. I'm not finishing it. Instead it’s time for Netflix on demand!

I AM HOPING that it drys out enough this week for weeding.

FROM THE KITCHEN I am eating non-homemade food. Imagine!

ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS is my house. Darn, I like it here.

A FEW PLANS FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK Plans? I shuld be making plans??
